CF'ing a R9 290 and 295X?

Hello, I am a first poster on here, but I come from many different forums... Don't worry...
I am about to start ordering parts for my PC, and I currently have a Asus DirectCU II 290 GPU with a 4K monitor on my part list, and that might be a little underpowered to play most games on ultra, so I'm planing to get another GPU to Crossfire in the future. I was thinking crossfireing the 290 with another Asus DirectCU II 295X or something along those lines. Though, my question is, is it even possible to crossfire both the Asus DirectCU II 290 and 295X in the same computer?

Same gpu, and yes you can trifire them. Just remember the 290x chips in the 295x2 will be slowed down due to the 290.

Ok, let me run you through this.

Firstly, YES, you can technically crossfire the cards, but only do so after reading over the issues.

Firstly, all of the GPUs will be running at the performance of the 290, meaning that you might end up with LOWER performance due to scaling issues than if you just ran the 295x2 on it's own.

Secondly, trifire support is iffy across the board.

Thirdly and perhaps the most importantly, if you are going to do that, you had better be using a damn high wattage power supply...

A R9-295X does not exist.

A R9-295X2 exists, but it is a Dual-GPU card that uses a AIO liquid cooler.

 

The R9-290, R9-290X, and R9-295X2 both uses the same "Hawaii" chip, so you can run them in Crossfire.

 

If you are pairing a R9-290 with a R9-295X2, that makes it a total of 3 GPUs.
