SLI 980's - Studdering/V-sync Issues

MayflowerElectronics

So I finally got this computer somewhat working.

n every game I've played I've had tons of micro-studdering and v-sync issues.

While playing a game of hearthstone (I know not demanding but proves a point) this is how the cards are acting.

While in BF4 I've noticed the same issues where the cards are not in tune (one will be slightly to moderately off sync with the other). I'm assuming this is what is giving me the problems? Let me know what you guys think.

Disable multi gpu in Nvidia control panel and then see if it persists.

May have to put Multi Gpu on or off,

I think you can set Hearthstone to use 1 gpu by going into Manage 3d settings, and clicking on hearthstone and then forcing it to use only one.

Sorry for double post, but the same problems happen in BF4.

I've only ever used Afterburner like once, but in Precision, there's an option to enable any changes you make to one card to also make the change to the secondary (tertiary and whatnot) as you make those changes. So I would see if the overclocks that you're applying are taking to both cards. This may not be the issue, though. Just something off the top of my head.

Did you also do a stability test for that overclock?

Also, I don't think Hearthstone has an SLI profile, to my knowledge anyways since the game shouldn't need one.

I also want to ask what you mean by micro-stuttering? You do mean very short lags/frame drops? It should be an issue with these new drivers. I've been getting them in games I've been playing lately and it's wanting me to do a rollback :<

Do a fresh installation of the driver, Go to Custom installation and say perform clean installation and then come back and see if it has improved. Weirdly this helped my Witcher 2 Stuttering to go away.

Also, any BIOS updates for the motherboard? / updated chipset drivers?

Hey Tyler, hows it goin?

a nice fix for micro stuttering is clocking the primary card slightly higher than than secondary card. In the past that has fixed SLI microstuttering issues for me.

Almost like the FPS would drop down to 20 fps for about a second. I just did a 100mhz overclock, nothing crazy. It's 1500mhz on both cards, MSI afterburner does it automatically.

It's liquid cooled I can't move them.

The driver is 1 day old. Bios and chipset are also new as of 1 day.

344.16 I believe.

344.16 I believe.

So game ready or stable. Have you tried overclocking the master card higher than the slave

344.48 is out now, released today I think, when you go to install it, instead of using express, go to custom and do a clean installation?

That's right I forgot they came out today, yes I already installed them. I'll try the overclocking thing in a second...

@MayflowerElectronics Tyler, try clocking the primary card 50-100Mhz higher than the secondary card

@JEman99 Please dont take the credit for my idea  :D

So these problems are just getting worse. Here is an update -

So I play mostly casual games but I like having the horsepower if I need it to push 1440p at max. While I'm playing WoW i'm getting dips into the 4 FPS range. If I tab out, the whole system is incredibly sluggish and also acts like its running at 4 FPS.

I even have one card enable when WoW and Hearthstone are being played, but I can still see the second GPU taking some load.

I have to turn off SLI completely for the system to work normally.

I think this may come down to the motherboard though, it's been one of the most expensive, and unstable, motherboards I've ever owned. I highly suggest that no one picks it up. It's the EVGA z97 classified.

I've also had constant blue screens of errors BCC 101 and 124 which is all hardware related and the ONLY thing that's different between this build and my other build is the GPU's and motherboard. GPU's are both 100% stable and are NOT overclocked.

Just for anyone out there reading this in the future, don't pick up that motherboard whatever you do. I'm switching to a asrock z97 extreme6 since I've had problems with gigabytes boards before this. Is it so hard to make a stable motherboard these days?
