Mushkin is pretty nice, still you should always guide yourself by what the reviews on amazon or newegg say. As for that particular ssd, you must know that cheap (budget) ssds, at 120 and 240 gb models suffer from low write speeds, the reads are mostly the same on any ssd but the writes (at least on the 120gb model of the same ssd) is 180 mb/s, thats the same as a "fast" mechanical hdd like the WD black. you can get the Crucial M550, amazing ssd, and at all capacity models the read/writes are at about 500 mb/s. The 240 gb m550 costs 150$, but you will get dem fast writes.

They make very good RAM, so I'd guess the SSDs are good too..

so would the most important spec for boot speeds be random or sequential reads?

ramdom, simply because randon writes give us a number in mb/s that anyone can undersand and sequential gives us a bunch of BS that if you a beginner you wont understand. And still, reads are more important than writes when the ssd is a boot drive.

so what is IOPS?

I couldn't disagree more. You should always ignore user reviews on amazon, newegg or any other sites like that. They are never going to be representative or based on facts.

As for sequential write speeds, they're not that important. Yeah a hard drive can more or less match a slow SSD when it comes to sequential writes, but throw even a little bit of random IO in there and the hard drive falls way behind.

so what is IOPS?

it stands for Input Output Operations per Second, its like a mix of both reads and writes that will give you the "average" of both.

Where can I find the random read/Write speeds?

They're pretty average SSDs. Not bad, not good. If the price is competitive then I'd recommend it.

Right now the Crucial MX100 is a really competitively priced SSD with (some) data protection built in. I'd recommend that one over the Mushkin drive.

AFAIK Mushkin doesn't have a fab. At best they buy the chips and assemble their drives but it's more probable that they buy from someone else and just stick their labels on them. So it means that they are the same as at least someone else. Not good or bad, just there. Look at their controllers, their IOPS spec and their Read/Write spec and compare it to equivalent priced drives. The same price or a little cheaper great! Really cheap? Look out. There's no free lunch and if they're so much cheaper than average, why? If they're the same price, especially compared to the regular name brands that are recommended on here all the time like Crucial and Samsung, why buy them instead of the name brands?

I have that exact SSD in the 120gb version and love it. Boots windows in 20s flat. Early versions have an older firmware on it that did cause some issues, but that has been fixed and should have no issues at all.
