Best gpu for 1280X1024 gaming?

TrxBoy

that is a good suggestion but you should also consider saving some more for the R9 280 it's much faster and 3GB of VRAM.

This would be my own suggestion:

I always recommend a cheaper card with better cooling, unless you plan on cooling it yourself. PowerColors are alright, but very budget orientated.

the turbo duo is an awesome cooler and will provide plenty of cooling for even an highly overclocked R9 280 GPU.

It's a steal at this price. This card is just as good as a twin frozr or DCUII card...it's just priced better.

That's really bad...if you are any serious about your gaming experience it's not money wasted you'll see games look so much better on a 1080P flat panel it's day and night...trust me on this.

you should feel the need if you don't it's because you havnt experienced something better yet cause i know myself is seriously considering making the jump from 1080P to 1440P soon and many others as well.

Well maybe there is a difference between 1440p vs 1080p but I actually played games on a 1080p monitor and I dont think its worth the 200 dollars it costs (at least where I live)

it's smaller than the one i've linked all the rest of the specs looks similar if you can afford it i don't know how much you would pay for it but i would look for 23 or 24 inch...even 27 is nice but it gets i suppose a bit overpriced...i personaly went with a 24inch 1080P and i regret not going with a 27''...

But the samsung you linked is a nice unit if it cost less than the one i linked then you should maybe consider it.

not really but as i mentionned you should aim in between it's a sweet spot and sure bet the R9 280 is the right GPU to get to play on high/ultra at 1080P IMHO. where you at and which websites are you shopping on?

The size of the screen wont affect the performance, only resolution does...1080P on 21inch is just as demanding as on a 27inch.

So.... you are willing to spend 300 dollars on a GPU to game on max settings at a crappy resolution (square screen even), but not willing to spend that exact same $300 on a GPU + monitor to game on med-high settings at Full HD resolution?

I'm honestly confused...

OK, get a standard caviar blue instead...no point ont the black is ever just so slightly faster at loading games you wont notice it...if your short look for the gigabyte 970A-UD3 or 970A-UD3P motherboard instead of the 990FX, a 550W PSU is plenty so downscale that, RAM go with 8GB of the cheapest available this wont affect your gaming performance...and then with the money get a 24inch 1080P display and a radeon R9 280 GPU.

You could also use the FX-6300 CPU to save some more if you really have to.

@i_build_nanosuits is this really a better time to buy r9 280 where gtx 970 is out??? on october 12,GTX 960 would be released.

if you feel like waiting a month before you can enjoy your system it's up to you but be advised there will always be something new and better around the corner thats just how it is.

970A-UD3P motherboard isn't better for overclocking.....

it's the same it has the same digital 8+2 heatsinked VRM that the 990FX big brother..it's just cheaper and won't support SLI.

If you are to overclock you need a good after market CPU cooler as well

at your current resolution you could game on an APU.

you can get a 1600x900 IPS 20'' monitor for 100-120 bucks (or less). not a huge difference from 1080p (75% of the pixels), but a 750 2Gb or 260x would chew through that resolution at a $250ish price tag (monitor + card). going up to 1080p is going to cost more for decent performance.

R9 3900XT | Tomahawk B550 | Ventus OC RTX 3090 | Photon 1050W | 32GB DDR4 | TUF GT501 Case | Vizio 4K 50'' HDR
