What do the magnets attached to cables do?

I've seen them on power, digital and analog cables. They are pretty much everywhere. What do they do?

They're magnets? I thought it was a piece of iron. It should shield the cable, but I'm not 100% sure.

It's not a magnet, its a ferrite core .

The ferrite core is there to reduce noise in the wires

Both power and data signals generate noise from the flow of electricity and can cause interferences with each so this ferrite cores are used to reduce that
