Windows deactivation period?

NeatSquidYT

I've heard that once you deactivate Windows on a machine, it takes 180 days till you can activate it again on another machine. Is this true ?

To correctly deactivate it (reformatting/wiping the disk is not deactivating it)

Press Windows key + X
Click Comman Prompt (Admin)
At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs -upk
Hit Enter, this will uninstall the product key from the computer and set it back to trial mode, you are now free to use it on another computer. If you encounter any problems when installing again, try activating by telephone:

1.       Press Windows key + X then click Run, then type:   slui.exe  4
2.       Next press the 'ENTER' key
3.       Select your 'Country' from the list.
4.       Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
5.       Follow the promps (you will get a long list of numbers to type in)
6.       If that fails then call again and just do/say nothing and a MS person will be able to help you

Presume this'll still work on a VM. Also, just a random question, what does that command prompt input actually mean?

You don't need to deactivate windows.

Deactivation is there if you want to change the product key for some reason.

When you'll activate windows on your new system or what not, it will deactivate the other for you.

If it works, your next activation will be fine.

If Microsoft activation server pulls a flag as what you did fell into a specific condition that would do such a thing (example: you re0installed Windows a bunch of time within the same month, and now you transferred it of computer), activation will fail, and you'll be greeted with a phone activation process. You'll see a toll free phone number to call, and a bunch of number ready to say or punch in with the automated system that will answer you on the other side when you call.

Then you'll be asked 1 or 2 questions, such as: how many system you have installed currently, this license? Witch you answer 1 (if you lie, regardless, it will deactivate the other previously installed one, and if you say more than 1, it will pass you to a person who will inform you that the license is for 1 system, and help you out purchasing another license of Windows for your other system). Once done, the automated system will give you an override activation code which you type in in the activation box that will display on your screen.

The whole process should take about 5min of your time. And that is... if you have the phone activation.

Could I take deactivation as sort of a precautionary action though?
