$500-$600 gaming build

catbutts

My friend wants to get in on PC gaming and asked me for help. I'm giving him my old case, some fans, and 2 hard drives for free. Mouse, KB, OS, and monitor are covered too.

I'm hoping this opens up his budget for a better GPU. I was thinking an R9 270X or R9 280 would be good for high settings at 1080p.

I am thinking the G3258 would be a good choice too since he will only be gaming/browsing the internet.

$650 including tax would be the highest he can offer.

Any suggestions?

aftermarket coolers are stupid if you want to go cheap and dont choose v300, it has a new and bad firmware aswell as controller, its as slow as a hdd now

This fits the budget a lot better

Do you think a Hyper 212 would perform decently for about half the price?

it would be decent, just don't expect to get past 4.5ghz though (assuming you have normal luck)

and actually if your really on a budget and don't plan on crossfireing anytime soon you could go with the 500 watt version of the power supply in the build, http://bit.ly/1msghaA

however If you stick with the Dark rock pro 3 keep the 600 watt powersupply for the extra overclocking headroom (and you could possibly crossfire)
