I have around £200 for a new GPU, thoughts?

Planning my first ever PC too play all kinds of games on.

Don't really have the extra £40. I thought the 280x was better than a 760?

It is, but the 760 uses less power. Up to you really, I opted for the 760 because it came with better games, but pick what you want.

Also, I wanted to record my games, which was a massive value add for me.

As well as this, apparently nvidia cards experience less coil whine.

I would agree, the R9280x is way better than the Gtx 760, I have no idea why he told you that :P.

 

R9280x 8.5/10   Gtx760 7.8/10 - That's what I would rate them.

I would also go with the 280X.

280x is a solid card, it's within the same range as a gtx 770.
