Validation for my home network + Partslist

Hi guys! My network is seriously outdated, and because I just built a file server, I'm looking for an upgrade. My first question is: 4gbit or is 2gbit enough (now I have 10/100  ). I made a partslist, but I'm not sure if everything fits together:

1x Linksys EA6700

4x Intel EXPI9404PTLBLK PRO1000PT 1GBit 4xRJ45 NIC BLK LP (Is there a cheaper option?) (Supports Link aggregation? On the web it says LACP is supported)

1x HP ProCurve 1810-24G Switch, 22xTP + 2xSFP (Overkill?)

I also made a list with 2gbit (would be better, cuz it's cheaper :P)

1x 1x Linksys EA6700

4x Intel E1G42ET Gigabit ET Dual Port Server Adapter

1x HP ProCurve 1810-24G Switch, 22xTP + 2xSFP (Probably sth smaller, any recommendations)

I'm new to this, so sorry if the question sounds dumb to you, everybody has to start out at some point :)

BTW I added two pictures showing how I would connect everything. (And sorry for eventual typos)

Thanks for your advice!

2 gb would be enough. unless you got 4 gb fiber to your home

Thanks for the quick reply!

What about the setup in general, does everything fit together?

First off, let me say, 1Gbit for anything in your home is WAY more then enough. Unless you transfering seriously huge files, you will not max out 1Gbit links.

Configuring LACP or trunking ports can get confusing, and your PC's won't even support it. So, don't worry about that. If anything, two connections for your file server and just set it to primary/backup, in case a port goes bad, cable fails, etc...

For a home network, keep it simple and it will perform well...

Look at an unmanaged GB switch from HP - 16 port, and you will be fine.

If you want to go overkill, Linus already made a video for you

For most people? Gigabit to each machine should be fine. Especially if you've got only 4 machines and it's a home setup where at most you'll probably see is a couple of people streaming a ~15Mbps video at once while a backup is running.

Fools think they know everything, experts know they know nothing
