Unsure on which gpu to buy? Help please.

Hi, I was looking at getting a new system as my old one is bit out of date now so i was browsing the gpu's and i got stuck on which one to select.

 

The Asus Radeon R9 290X DirectCU II OC - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-330-AS

OR 

The MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming Edition - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-238-MS

OR spend a bit more money and buy the top of the line 290x.

The MSI Radeon R9 290X Lightning Edition - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-237-MS

 

I will be overclocking the card so i would like to know if you guys would help me is that as the asus one is the cheapest of the three i would like to know if its any good at overclocking or if its worth paying more to get only a little more performance.

The lighting is the best out of the three, if you can I would go for the lighting for the best performance if you can shell out the extra money for the card.

Go for the lightning if you're Overclocking.

the MSI gaming edition is great value its £100 cheaper and barely any slower, maybe get a second one later?

Save money, get faster performance, and just get a 780ti instead.

The Lightning has way better cooling than the DCU2. 

Well, Direct CU II OC gives better price to cooling performance.

Nobody buys a Lightning for its "better" cooling but people do buy Direct CU II branded cards for their better cooling compared to reference cards.

I've had the Asus one wasn't reallly impressed with the cooling the Sapphire one seems to do a better job, I would go for a 780 or another brand 290x

 

 

Yes I had the Asus direct cu II 290x but I sold it.

People buy MSI Ligthning cards for the better overclock? You know what? You need better cooling for a better overclock.

Yes if price was not a consideration and people wanted the best overclockable card with good cooling they will go for it. You are absolutely right! Sorry for my plebeian logic.

All I'm saying is that better cooling is better cooling and not better cooling for the money. Also let's stop this.

The 780 Ti with nothing but an aftermarket cooler in the UK is more expensive than the 290x Lightning (on the websites i have looked at) which is as i have found the most expensive 290x and since i am hoping to be using some open cl optimized software as well as game the 290x seems like the better choice.

If you want OpenCL performance then you have made the right choice.

 

If you do not plan to push your card by overclocking beyond a certain limit then go for the ASUS or else Lightning is your friend! :)

Your in the UK? In the US the AMD card prices are insanely high, because of miners.    Between those cards, I'd suggest, that if you want to spend the money, get the lighting. If not, get the MSI gaming.

i am looking for the opencl performance and if i choose the lightning then i will push it at overclocking.

Thanks for your help people :D i guess ill be choosing the lightning as it seems to be the best overclocker and it seems pretty fast out of the box so again thanks for your help :D
