Core UNPARKING !.....Does it help?

Go to solution Solved by kizoku_95,

This thread has served its purpose...

Core unparking is a bitter sweet

It works for some and diesnot work for others!!

Try it if you want will not affect anything negatively!

I've been doing this for bloody ages on ALL desktops.

Desktops shouldn't even be using this feature.

Perfectly feasible for laptops to have it remain engaged and parking cores to save battery life when idle (shutting down 1-4 cores)

Stupid for Desktops, hence why I disable it, I have a program that does it for you as well, does not require restarts, has a GUI (park control), and yes, ON VS OFF> BF4 beta stutters dissipated COMPLETELY, Tombraider Minfps rises.

If you take the time to look at the differences.... you'll find out if its worth it.

What's the program called?

You can also do it through regedit. Takes longer but if you are comfortable with regedit and can avoid putting the wrong values in? Go for it. :)

Hmm.. I use Windows 7 on my Core 2 Duo laptop. I wonder if this will help. (My netbook too.) I'll have to try later.

Okay, and I don't have to worry about wrong links since I do most of my downloads on Linux, and I use AdBlock Plus. :D

ParkControl has a GUI, does it all for you, requires NO RESTART. Add it to your collection.

It seems I have been lucky because I have never seen parked cores on my pc as I have a gadget that tells me core usage and if I run prime 95 it would always same 100% on all 8 threads and when playing bf4 cpu usage is 50% but maybe it is different on win 7 but im pretty sure M$ is not doing it to make you upgrade and win 8.1 is faster anyway parked cores or not(at least for startup and shutdown)

First you say it is not needed, then call a 4770k @ 4.5ghz SLOW,  now you say 8.1 is faster then 7. Where? It's the same kernel. The only thing it does faster then 7 is boot. Period. End of story. In all other games it is like 1 fps slower or at best equal. I have tried the win 8.1 trial. It is garbage. If anything it was slower in everything (very slightly) then Win 7. Boot time means jack to me, my desktop has a sleep option.

"Shuts down faster"? Are you kidding me with this? Do you sit there and watch a computer shut down after you click "shut down"? Pro tip. Once you click "shut down" you can turn the monitor off if you so desire and walk away from the computer. Try it. You will be AMAZED.

The only thing missing from your post, was the "start bar program", otherwise your posts are 100 percent MS employee/drone/shareholder crap that I see every single day on every single major forum.  Give it a rest. No one likes Windows 8. It sucks for work, and isn't better for games when you unpark cores. The OS is a disaster. Mouse problems, network problems, memory leaks, games that flat out say we don't support the OS (saw this one by a Mod in the Guild Wars 2 forum a few weeks back).

You are paying 100-150 bucks for a new direct x, with crap most people didn't want in the first place, while breaking things that people did like, like multitasking. It will supposedly be "fixed" in 2015. Come back then. Sell us Windows 9 with a new direct X lol. Hopefully native OpenGL ports on steambox and low level api's like mantle kill DirectX by then. Anyone that spends 100-150 bucks on Direct X upgrade over a HARDWARE upgrade is an idiot. All they do is encourage this crap from MS.

BTW? In my posts earlier I specifically stated that benchmarks/stress tests used all 8 threads. Only GAMES were broken by core parking. They have always been broken on Win 7, which is why an I5 was benchmarked to be slightly faster in older games. People never cared to understand the problem cus the I7 was so damn fast it didn't really matter if 3 threads were asleep and that it causes a slight delay when the game had to look past threads that were asleep. Now in 8 thread games? It does matter. AMD people had to figure this crap out a long time ago, because with poor FPU they were SCREWED if threads were asleep.Games ran like a slideshow.

yes true...........did not notice any difference after unparking 2 cores on win8.1.........

and compared to win 7 the max fps are a little lower in 8.1 but the averages seem to be a tad bit better!

If you want to use an older os be my guest I couldn't care less if you don't use windows I never said is was good its not and hasen't been for a long time I use it on my gaming pc because few AAA games support linux. steambox will change this and then only idiots will use windows.

I never mentioned any start bar program but the op has made it clear he supports the above post and he is right as there is not much difference!

Lets end this with a goodwill and say that you are right at your spot and he is right at his.....

The unparking thingy might help some...but did nothing to me!

I would thank all for your opinion and dont want anyone to be proved wrong......let this conversation be the last on this thread!
