Computer hardware question

Acer Aspire TC-780-AMZKi5 - tower - Core i5 7400 3 GHz - 12 GB - 2 TB
so i got this PC and plan to upgrade this computer later and just want to know of a few things
here are my current specs i have so far

450w PSU
intel i5 CPU 7400 3.0Ghz 3.5 Ghz turbo
GTX 970
12 GB DDR4 2400 Mhz RAM

as far as i know, i read this PC supports up to 500W psu so i am aware if i need to upgrade and work around what i wanna install

so i want to upgrade this PC to its max specs, i want to know,  for both i5 and i7 CPUs of the best CPU can this PC hold i may get an I5 and the i7 for later if the 7400 is the best one then i want to know the best i7 i can get. if the 7700 is the best what kind do i need to get as others have a letter next to their number

now for one more question, this is the first PC i got that has a laptop like drive in it, so what are some blu ray drives i can get for this PC, i know it may look wired if the drive is diffrent but i would like one it dont matter if the drive has a open bay or one of those you can just slide the disk in also please provide a link for me to purchase the cable cord as my PSU dont have the connector to power the drive

Easier to just start from scratch, 6 and 7th gen i7s hold their value well, making them bad value in terms of performance.

First upgrade is an SSD boot drive, next power supply, then CPU, then GPU, Then Case

The OEM PSU is likely crap

It's not worth spending any money to upgrade to an i7 unless the i7 is next to free since you can upgrade to an R5 1600/2600 + ASrock Pro4 for about $200-250

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

i installed the 450w as i have it marked in the specs so the i7 won't be a good idea to buy then. im mainly using my PC for gaming and video edits gaming so far will just be what i can play on the Xbox store as some games i can install and have no issues with what i have

and ok if i am looking for anything bigger/powerful i keep that in mind i mainly got the PC for youtube and play some games for now as for a start

was giving the SSD a thought that might be later down the road. the CPU is one thing i was looking at upgrading the GPU is a GTX 970 may upgrade to a GTX 1080 but the 970 is good for what i am using it for right now. getting a case will be later if i can't get a good blu ray player for a laptop for the case i have now

For video editing in general more cores is useful, premiere likes an iGPU but it isn't going to matter much for 1080p stuff.

Even Ryzen 8 cores are super cheap right now, though this one doesn't have a CPU cooler.

If you only have a 1080p 60hz display a GTX 1070ti/1080 would be a waste of money.

ok cool then i can get these parts then and a new case + cooler, why would it be a waste of money other then it supports 4K cause i don't care for the 4K im be on 1080p for a long time before i think on getting 4K. just getting the GPU for more power for video edits, better games that require the power and some 3D editing for now im on a GTX 970 and it works perfect, not worried to play some games in high details

The 970 is still perfectly fine for 1080p 60hz gaming and video editing doesn't really care about high end GPUs.

3D modeling or 3D video editing?

Then maybe look for Vega FE in the future, currently $400 used on ebay, but it's the cheapest card with 16GBs of VRAM which may be important.
