Anything I should know before upgrading my CPU?

Go to solution Solved by 3 Lions,

If it's just a CPU swap you don't need to do anything.

I'm planning on swapping my i5-4460 with an i7-4790. I want to use the same lga 1150 socket motherboard. If all I'm doing is swapping the two chips, are there any drivers or anything I need to worry about?

remember to apply new thermal paste before putting the cooler back on is all i can really think off. also is that the locked or unlocked K chip you are swapping too? you might want a better cooler than the stock cooler because it gets very loud and annoying and the I7 4790K ends up pretty hot using it

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Your motherboard may need a BIOS update to accept that devil's canyon chip. You won't need to download any software but you will need to head to the motherboard manufacturer's website to find the new BIOS.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad
