More storage = smoother performance?

I have two iPad 2s as I've mentioned before. One of them is a 16 GB model and the other one has 32 Gigs. The 32 Gig model seems to perform much better, with games being able to be run so much better, and actually being able to watch Twitch or open apps without it crashing. I can use it with fast fluid gestures, and it seems that the animations have even been disabled on the 16 Gig model and it still runs really badly. Sometimes it can't even render me typing in the password in real time. Anyways, has anyone else ever experienced this? I was curious as to why this would be happening. They are both the exact same model.

Same updates installed on both? A lot of the updates from back then really slowed down the iPad2s.

More memory means more space for swap things, are you filling it up?

I've already tried restarting it. The 32 Gig model is just faster, and they are both running that last update supported on iPad 2, which makes them run both really clunkily. I think it's something like iOS 9.3.5.

They are both running 512 MB of RAM. And I've restarted both many times. And I just noticed something strange - the iPad 3 that comes after it has the exact same specs, but twice the amount of RAM. And it also has a resolution that gets astonishingly close to the MacBook Pro from 2014. I'm thinking about upgrading to a newer model, so should I get the 2018 version or something a bit older and cheaper such as the 2017, or the iPad Air 2? I'm probably not getting the new iPad Pro, as much as I want it as a tablet.

Sorry, I meant storage. If one's using eMMC and one's using a faster memory type that could be why.

Snag the standard 2018 iPad -- the 128GB model if you can, just to be relatively futureproof.  It's reasonably quick and even supports the original Pencil if you ever have the urge to draw.

 

As for why the 16GB iPad 2 was thrashing... it's likely just a lack of available space forcing the iPad to either constantly refresh caches or go without.  It's incredibly easy to run out of space on a 16GB iOS device.
