First of all, thank you guys for all the recommendations, I'll be sure to check them all out ASAP

and second, I feel like i might have a couple bands for anyone who likes brutal/technical death metal

here's one that is extremely underrated in my opinion

I'm sure everyone knows Skinless but here

And one last song

^they do death metal and death n roll Wolverine Blues = any early mix of the two.

These are the bands I started on.  From what I heard my stepsister grew up with Dallas from Nile, and my stepdad and my mom have met him.  Never was close to her, so I don't know the truth in that.  But, they did move down to the Carolinas together around that time from what I was told.

god i listen to Possessed and Death, found Possessed through Primus way after i got into death metal. They're great

Used to photograph for Nile when they were in concert. Nice chaps.

Some perhaps more obscure bands to give a listen:

Agathodaimon

Ancient

...and oceans (heavy on the industrial edge)

Chain Collector

Descending

Destroyer 666 (their early stuff. The newer stuff is a sonic wall of blackened thrash metal, great in its own right)

Inactive Messiah (Greek avant garde death metal)

Midvinter (possibly, they tended to straddle the line into Black Metal)

Morgoth (with the exception of my fav album "Feel Sorry for the Fanatic" where they ventured into techno experimental death metal)

Rotting Christ (Greek, all over the map, though their early work is firmly in the DM camp)

Samael

This Ending

Tiamat (again, early work, their later stuff is really out there, and is absolutely brilliant)

The stuff they released as Treblinka is some of the best extreme metal that has come out of Sweden.

Also, since we opened up a can of old school worms:

Would you classify Kreator as death metal? It's a fuzzy line they straddle. Ditto with early works by Dark Angel...

Not really. But I would put them in the same category as Mantas, Possessed, Sodom, and Holy Moses. A category of thrash that bares enough hallmarks of death metal to at least be considered proto-death metal.

I can get behind that....

One of those albums where each song is good. Also, an album from which most of the metalcore riffs come from
