2700X became incredibly hot!

I was just doing TimeSpy and stuff overclocking. I remember I was able to reach 4.3Ghz no problem with about 80c under synthetic load. Now my CPU shoots to 100C in Cinebench right away. Not sure why though? I use the same settings as before. I even tried my old settings that I knew worked such as: 1.325V for 4.2Ghz. 

 

I even left voltage at auto and it was pulling 1.5V. I have H115i CPU cooler and I remember it passing the tests no problem, I even have 4.3 test passes saved in my cinebench. I also have fans set to 100% speed and they're Noctua industrial fans with 3000RPM each. 

 

In Ryzen Master EDC (CPU) is on red the entire time, even at stock! It says "100% of 140A, limit 168A). Always on red.

 

Also, when I do cinebench at stock with fans blasting 100% speed, temps go up to 70c with AIO 280mm water cooler.

 

It's definitely mounted properly I just checked. Should I repaste it?

I had this cooler replaced like 6 months ago because previous one was problematic....

 

Literally CPU was at 72C now when running Cinebench at stock. I changed the pump speed to quiet instead of performance to see if it will make a difference but I guess not.

 

Plus CPU amperage (I think?) is pinned 100%, so what the hell is going on... I don't know.

Judging from previous posts on the forums, I think it's just Cinebench that goes that high in temps.

Make sure to quote or tag people, so they get notified.

That Cinebench temp doesn't seem alarming but I don't know what speed it was running and what voltage.  Also, what are the ambient temps in the room?  Was it cooler during your previous benchmarking sessions?

4.2Ghz used to run at 69C under load. Now, 90C+ and it fails Cinebench runs.

Jayz2Cents setup runs 50C at idle, mine 72C with 3000 RPM fans. Something is not right. Also 4.3Ghz is 100C +!

Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut. Literally paid £16 for few grams. The thing is that I didn't touch it before at all. It just sort of happened. I updated to latest BIOS and since then I'm having some issues. But I flashed back and I still had issues so I don't know.

Can you see the pump speed in HWiNFO?  Also what is your Minimum Processor State set to in your power plan?  But it seems like there is some other variable that has changed since your last successful overclock if your AIO pump is performing as it should.

I just wanted to take a picture of 4.2Ghz OC settings now, but the temps shot to 97C and my system turned off, it didn't even lock itself like it usually would!

I can see pump speeds just fine. 2000 for quiet and 3000 when on performance.

 

The problem is, there is no way for me to check if it's the motherboard, CPU or the cooler!

What are you voltages in BIOS?  And what are you load line calibration settings?  And have you tried resetting you BIOS to its optimized settings and then setting everything again?  Sometimes I have found that simply loading saved profiles creates unknown changes that become unstable.

I have no profiles because I tried to revert back to old BIOS but it had the same issues, so I upgraded again to latest one. No settings changed it's all stock yet again.

 

I managed to "fix" the EDC (CPU) being not red any more. When I set the power profile to "Balanced" and not "Performance" the CPU behaves on at idle, until I run Cinebench which results in same 72C under load scenario.

 

Jay2Cents was running 2700X stock in Cinebench with crappier AIO at 50c.

 

If I try to now overclock by any amount, CPU will shoot to 100C and turn my PC off. I'm tempted to RMA each part because I don't know the culprit.

If you're running at stock and hitting 72*C then that does seem high.  And if you're seeing the pump is running then maybe there is a problem with a clog or air in your cooler.  And did you check your thermal paste application?  I don't know if you have any paste left over from your first install so I can understand if pulling off the cooler isn't do-able right now.  If you can't remove the cooler then try picking up your case and turning it to move fluid around the cooler without it being on.

Not sure what I did but I just pushed the CPU and GPU cables in, and took out the AIO outside slightly on it's tray. Now temps are 7C lower, and I don't know why. I just tried 4.2Ghz OC and it completed at 74C peak temp (I imagine it would continue rising though). Still looking into it.

That could be the case, air bubbles etc. I'll shake it a bit.

Okay I didn't do anything and it all leveled off? Runs as it should I think?

72C tops again, but I'm overclocking to 4.2Ghz at 1.325V. Does this seem normal? Getting same scores as before now: 1895 in Cinebench, before was 1899 so margin of error.

Okay I think it all looks good now, thanks for all the help.

 

Just not sure what happened and how it fixed itself.

 

1800RPM fans create 73C temp under 4.2Ghz OC in Cinebench, (1.325V)

1800RPM fans create 83C temp under 4.25Ghz OC in Cinebench. (1.406V)

3000RPM fans create 91C temp under 4.3Ghz OC in Cinebench (1.45V) Crash (did not complete test)

4.3Ghz used to be doable, but not any more for no reason I guess.

 

I don't think temps are what they should be but oh well.

 

Hopefully someone will find this info useful, I think the temps are still beyond wrong but not much I can do I guess.

I don't think temps are what they should be but oh well.

 

Hopefully someone will find this info useful, I think the temps are still beyond wrong but not much I can do I guess.

Try to repaste with something that stays wet a bit longer, kryonaut seems to get dry unless it has a very high pressure heatsink. Gelid GC extreme as far as I know doesn't have that problem. Maybe just check on the paste for now and see if it has dried up at all.

Never had issues with Kyronaut. Using it since 6800k came out.

 

I'll try to repaste with Kyronaut again though. I'll see if it helps at all.
