So I have a file on my HDD that has some steam games from when I transferred them over from an older computer. For whatever reason I have steam putting all new games into a new folder, but the new folder also has the older games there too? I can only assume that Steam found those files and put them in the right place at some point, I'm not sure. The point though is that I have this old steam folder that has about 200gb on it that I'm not even sure I need. I would be quick to delete it but it actually looks like it's gotten larger over time which means that steam is putting things in it still for some reason. I hope this isn't too vague of a description, I can try my best to provide more details if needed, but should I be able to delete this without worry of screwing steam or my game up?

Steam menu  > Settings > Downloads > Content Libraries : STEAM LIBRARY FOLDERS

Click.

If your folder is not there, you can delete it.

Alternatively, ADD the folder to that list. Steam will detect the game files in that folder and when you'll try to launch a game with game files in that folder, it will automatically download only what's missing.

you can also move games from one folder to another in that list, set one folder as default location to download new games to and all that crap from that Downloads section in the settings menu.

Ok well it look like only the correct folder is being used. My theory about the old folder getting bigger may be wrong. So from the looks of it I can just get rid of the old (presumably) unused folder?

Unless you told Steam to not use the old folder, it will continue to look in that folder for games you've downloaded. If you've already moved everything over, then sure, you can get rid of it.

Ya I think I'll just go ahead and do that. I looked through the games it has and even in the worst case scenario where I lose all game data I wouldn't be concerned. I highly doubt that will happen though considering the circumstances.
