Computer shops are quite familiar in our place and I finally have the time and limited budget for upgrade. I have 6 units with this build for almost 4 years now.

- AMD A6-6400K

- 4GB RAM

- MOBO MSI F2A68HM-S1

- 500GB HDD

- GT 730 (2GB) Graphics Card

Mostly used for potato gaming (DotA 2 and common FPS games in my region). I am thinking of upgrading the units' RAM to 8GB and CPU to AMD A8-7650K. However, I started to consider upgrading the secondary storage, instead of a TRADITIONAL hard disk drive, I am planning to use SSDs for all units and RAM to 8GB. These are the only options I have and I would want to choose one the soonest possible time. I want to keep my customers, although this 'upgrade' doesn't really seem like an upgrade to the majority of you but from where I am right now, it can really help. What would you do, what would Linus do? :D thanks for your help!

RAM and GPU i'd say...

If someone has helped you out on the forum don't forget to give them a reaction to say thank you!

fm2+ is really dated but if you can get the Athlon II X4 8(6/78)0K (quad core cpus) for a cheap price (under $30) then i'd upgrade.

for the gpus the rx 570 is good value but I don't know if it's in your budget.

Thanks for droppin' by. As much as I'd  want to upgrade the GPU, it's really off the table for now due to the lack of budget. :)

If it used for gaming you have a massive GPU bottleneck here and that would be the main thing to upgrade....

Thanks for dropping by. Could you please elaborate it further? Like possible recommendations (model/ build) of the CPU if in case I want to keep the GPU. Enlighten me :D

Honestly, you wont really see all that much improvement with a new CPU... It wouldnt be worth the cost... If your budget is so tight Id just get my hands on a bunch of GTX660tis or something like that and scrap the ram upgrade.

Do correct me if I'm not getting this straight, I can keep the motherboard and change CPU to the quad core CPU then change the GT 730 to RX 570?

Thanks for this one. I will try to look for GTX 660ti here, I just hope my scrappy A6-6400K handles this 660ti gpu well.

rx 570 would bottleneck it at 1080p, maybe the 1050 or 1050ti would be a better fit but anything lower is teeeeeeeeeeerrible value

used older gpus would work but do look up benchmarks to see what kind of framerates you'll be getting

What's the used market like over there? Any access to eBay?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

Yes, eBay is available but not really wise to get parts from there. Local stores are cheaper, people post used items in a fb group and do meetups.

Oh ok, with a healthy used market like that you should be able to find a quad core processor and a GTX Graphics card. I recommend something like a gtx 750 ti, very low power draw

Athlon X4 860K is the best CPU you can get(which isn't saying much, a used 4th gen i5 would be better).

With that, look for a GTX 1050 or 1050Ti. Anything higher will likely be bottlenecked due to the weak CPUs on the FM2 socket.

Personally, I would get off of FM2 as quickly as possible. Upgrading the RAM, CPU, and GPU will be a better option than upgrading storage. Reason being is that storage is cheaper and can be more easily upgraded down the road.

You need to change the motherboard too. The A6 is fm2 and the A8 is fm2+. AFAIK you can't put and fm2+ into a fm2.

Some boards have support for FM2+ and FM2.

My Gigabyte GA-A68HM-DS2H will take both.

Yes, that's what I meant when I said some boards will take FM2+ and FM2.
