9900k Experience (CoD 60+ more fps)

cwes26

Picked up a 9900k at Microcenter when Amazon failed to deliver. Coming from a i5 3570k with 980ti.

Build

Z390 Gigabyte Ultra

9900k w noctua d15s (one fan)

Msi 980ti

32gb ddr4 3200 16

Samsung 970evo m.2

Fractal Design Define C (2 noctua 140 intake, 1 noctua exhaust

Alienware ultrawide 1440p gsync

Very impressed so far. Have tested with MCE on and off, easy 5ghz all core, have more testing to do lowering voltage and keying in overclock. So far running benchmarks highest temp was 90c. Idle and normal usage temps much lower.

Use Adobe Lightroom alot for work. Went from photo merge times of several minutes per photo to 5 seconds.

CoD blackout went from 30-60fps with big frame drops to 100-120+ fps. Couldn't believe my eyes. Very surprised by how much of a bottleneck my 3570k was. Was very close to upgrading to 2080 or 2080ti. Hoping to get another year out of my 980ti.

Will post some Cinebench and user benchmarks.

I don't know what impresses me more . . . your game/Lightroom results or that you walked into Microcenter and found a 9900K.  Well done.

You were facing a huge bottleneck with the i5 with that GPU !

Thanks! Never trust Microcenters website, called and they had 2 of them, wouldn't even let me put on hold over the phone. Set a new land speed record omw.

Have you considered finding a cheap 980ti to pair with your first one?  Actually, looking at used prices that might be wasteful.

i have a few gamer friends across the states, 2 of them went to mc and just...got 9900ks, hell it's probably one of the easiest ways to get one if there's an mc within driving distance. The one near me closed years ago, so still waiting on bh (soon).

Manually set some overclocks 5ghz all cores Vcore set to 1.3v. Edit: prime95 stable at 1.28v, interested to see how low I can get the voltage.

Ran Prime95 (current version small ffts) with -3 avx offset, temps hit 84C. With load line calibration set to auto. Tried also with llc set to turbo, and temps reached 95C.

I also Ran Prime95 without avx no offset (5gz all core), temps hit 76C.

No joke.  I'm nearly to the point of giving up on my 9900k build and just returning the MB and moving the custom loop over to the 2700x.
