Hey, I got some trouble with my GPU. I just bought an RTX 2070 with r7 2700x and 600w PSU. I overclocked CPU to 4.05 and also overclocked my GPU, when I run pubg and check task manager the GPU usage only stayed at like 70% while not using the whole GPU to 100% so it seems like I'm not giving it enough juice idk. So if the problem is actually lack of power, do u think a 650w would be enough.

Edit : just checked aida64 and found out my 12V is only 11.612

Where did you read the GPU is only at 70%, as far as I know windows task manager GPU reporting is quite broken.

Did you check what your CPU-cores were pegged in at? Your GPU only has work if the CPU is there to give it something to do, so if the CPU can't keep up, then obviously the GPU will also be slacking off.

sorry but what "pegged" mean , i did some tests , when its not overclocked , the game can use up to like 85% but when its overclocked it fall back to 70%

Did you check what each and every core's usage was? Not the overall average, I mean every individual, single core.

That's not what I asked.

The "usage" of the CPU cores (or virtual cores if a hyperthreading CPU) will show as a percentage of active time in Windows resource manager.

It can do similar for GPUs. Or you can use other software to check the CPU and GPU useage.

However, no computer gets "100% use". PubG is not perfect in it's programming, so will not use 100% of a CPU or GPU when using a really really good set of hardware. The RTX will not use it's raytracing cores, may not use all the VRAM, or a CPU may not use all the cores/threads or may have some time when you are not doing anything, so it drops under 100% load.

Also, what monitor do you have? The RTX 2070, might actually be doing 70-80fps in 1080p... so if you have a 60fps/hz monitor, there are 10 or so frames when the GPU does "nothing" (if Vsync is on, you can turn it off again). So it might in general only be active 80% of the time. Not a problem.

Or just turn up graphics settings and resolution to 8k until you are back to 5fps and treacle like slow performance. XD

um its like 55% in every cores while playing rainbow six siege

lol well , i got a 144hz monitor , my gpu could barely hit 110fps in 1080p and high settings...its even worse than my 1060 6gb so i thought something went wrong

Ah. That's more info. Might be a lack of power. The 20xx series will power throttle. But no idea if they do over power loss?

What is the PSU brand?

Can you check total power estimation on a PSU website? Because you are also overclocking the CPU... so you might be causing some power problems. 20xx should not be worse than the 1060!!! (But again, you have not said what settings you use, so you might be comparing super low settings vs super high insane RTX rendering XD )

yea , its coolermaster's 600w i couldnt remember which one it is exactly so i think i might be changing my psu

Depends on your CPU then. Could be under 500w, could be a tiny bit under 600w... need specs or to check on an online calculator.

yea ... so i think im gonna grab a 700w just in case , i dont want my pc to explode lol

Get the tool https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ , run it, and leave it on the "Sensors" tab. Then go and run your games while monitoring what the "perfcap Reason" says. If it's:

  • Pwr: GPU is being power limited
    • Get a better power supply
  • Vrel: GPU thinks the current voltage is not good enough to push any further
    • Tell the GPU it can use higher voltage via a tuning program like MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision
  • VOp: GPU reached its maximum operating voltage
    • There's nothing you can do here
  • Thrm: Thermal throttling
    • Make sure the GPU is receiving enough cooling
  • Util: Underutilized
    • Either the game is too easy for the GPU to run or it's being bottlenecked by the CPU
    • EDIT: This does not mean you should upgrade the CPU. Figure out if the CPU is bottlenecking by way of being too busy (i.e., 90-100% utilization, in which case you should upgrade the CPU) or if the game relies on single core performance (reducing the number of cores available for the app doesn't affect performance, in which case you shouldn't upgrade just yet)

DONT JUST USE PUBG TO CHECK GAMES GPU USAGE

Worst Game to test with... (Even after its updates)

I play this game everyday, with friends, who have faster GPU's than you and I,...it's NOT up to standard as far as testing your GPU properly goes.

In PUBG SPECIFICALLY - Faster PC's than YOURS drop GPU usages.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
