Kind of takes the fun out of making a parts list of the teacher can just get a prebuilt. I think the i3 is a better idea, more modern iGPU and some DDR4. Also, no SSD? Eww.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

You could add an SSD for $50 and the modern iGPU would go to waste on running word/excel/powerpoint/facebook.

Nah, old integrated graphics solutions can be pretty slow. I've managed to get myself frustrated on an old Sandy bridge PC because YouTube had a bad framerate.

yeah , as much as i appreciate prebuilts , thats pretty much my line of thought. plus , they dont have many good prebuilts in israel , the market for custom built pcs is kinda big though..

I highly, get an ssd and a new igp

Much faster and they'll be supported for longer, not to forget an ssd will keep the smoother for long :D

all the ssd will need to hold is an os really.

I may be wrong.

Looks grossly overkill.

  • Go with a G4560, or similar Pentium.
  • You don't need to buy an aftermarket cooler.
  • Motherboard is excessive. Just get something in the B series.
  • Use money saved to either up the storage, or perhaps the SSD size.

The cooler is 100% a waste of money. Drop it, use the stock cooler, and put that money towards something else (or simply have the computer be slightly cheaper)

DDR4 and current gen iGPU also totally useless. It's an Office PC. YouTube is likely the most demanding thing the teacher would ever use it for.

Not saying go out and get a Core 2 Duo, but there's no inherent need for DDR4 and a current model iGPU.

Agreed.

Also, where's the school IT in all of this? What's the warranty? Does the school have a contract with any PC vendors (eg: HPE or Dell)?

Or is this for her personal use at home?

Have to agree with this one.

I'd also like to add to up the RAM to 8GB to take advantage of dual channel mode since IIRC 4GB sticks are the norm for DDR4. No more 2GB sticks.

CPU: Sempron 2500+ / P4 2.8E / P4 2.6C / A64 x2 4000+ / E6420 / E8500 / i5-3470 / i7-3770
GPU: TNT2 M64 / Radeon 9000 / MX 440-SE / 7300GT / Radeon 4670 / GTS 250 / Radeon 7950 / 660 Ti

Frankly the additional performance of dual channel is 100% irrelevant here.

Stick with whatever is cheaper. Buying 2x 4GB cheaper? Get that. Buying 1x 8GB cheaper? Get that.
