Mantle = 45% better performance

I'm very happy to see Mantle finally showing some numbers on slides, now gives us some hands on to confirm it by tech websites/YTers and make the Battlefield 4 patch already.

While I'll probably stay with PhysX, I'm glad to see they are pushing it, now if only consoles... whatever.

If you have an nVidia card, you have to disable at least TressFX, because that murders your framerate.

 

Ya i have and it runs great with the occasional crash still even with latest patch.  Not that big of a deal as they are few and far between and the game literally saves after everything you pickup.

This is a silly comparison because Kaveri will blow intel integrated away without mantle.

 

What we do know.

1. Direct X can at times be 1/3rd slower then a low level API used on a console, meaning at times you need 3 times the CPU (which we can do easily, since console cpu's suck).

2. I would expect a BIG increase on minimum FPS dips.

3. I would not expect nearly as big an increase on max FPS.

 

In BF4 HOPEFULLY we will see console like optimization numbers. The oxide demo is showing double that. That is probably a ways off. Will we see anything close to that in BF4. No. In the up coming Frostbite games, like Battlefront, ME 4? Maybe. 

 

The only people who should be hoping Mantle fails are MS employees and stock holders. Direct X sucks and always has sucked. Forced OS upgrades like Windows 8 are also stupid. Nvidia will catch up/make their own and might already be doing so.

 

EVERYONE should hope Mantle is awesome and has a good debut. We all win.

why the fuck are they comparing a decent apu with a 4670k. I doubt that there is hardly anyone who plays them games on that cpu with no gpu.

i think they are saying that the 4670k is also using the R7

Well looks like Mantle means business, with AMD's new A-series APU released it is said that Mantle enables 45 percent performance in BF4. Which is by the way only known game that supports Mantle, I hope more games will to later on.  AMD's claims are so tall, that even a 512 stream processor-laden A10-7850K APU could offer acceptable frame-rates at 1080p. Looks like BF4 is going to be a  tech-demonstrator for the API, selling it to the various game developers AMD has built strong developer relations with.

In what could explain AMD's move to include copies of one of the most GPU-intensive games with its new A-Series APUs, the company revealed that Mantle, its ambitious attempt at a 3D graphics API to rival DirectX and OpenGL, "enables up to 45 percent faster performance" than DirectX in Battlefield 4, the only known game with planned support for Mantle, and one of the most popular PC games of the season. AMD's claims are so tall, that even a 512 stream processor-laden A10-7850K APU could offer acceptable frame-rates at 1080p, while a $299 Radeon R9 280X could run circles around a $650 GeForce GTX 780 Ti at this particular game.
