Graphics card limitations in case?

btng

If the case manual says that the graphics card limitation in terms of length is 300mm - how long graphics card is actually recommended in that case? Is there a general gap that is needed for air flow or can I get a GPU that is 299mm (hypothetically)?

it does not really matter that much in terms of airflow since if you hypothetically you have the said 299mm gpu in terms of performance pretty much the same

Yeah, you can get a 299mm GPU. Depending on the case, you can get a longer GPU and cut the HDD tray out (or 5.25" bay). If the case doesn't have one of those though, then yeah, it's a pretty hard limit. It might also not account for the 15mm or so thickness of a front fan

Is there a specific case and specific model of graphics card you are looking at? Might help us identify any issues you might have.

The case is the Fractal Design Meshify C TG. I am looking at 2080ti cards with triple fans. They are usually very long. I only have case fans in the front of the case and no radiator. According to the manual I can fit a card that is 315mm maximum (with a fan installed).

The listed dimension in this case is the maximum size the retailer guarantees that a component should fit. You MIGHT be able to squeeze in a card thats 316mm or longer (assuming you keep the fan), but it wouldn't be officially supported. For example, I managed to fit a 300mm long GPU (1080ti FTW3) into a Corsair 380T (290mm official GPU length) without modding the case, just moving the front I/O wires.  I've also fit a Enermax ETS-T40 (161.7mm) CPU cooler into a NZXT S340 Elite (161mm) which barely touched the glass.

Nice, but is it bad for airflow or anything else than the actual size limits?

Nope. Just a matter of if it will or wont work physically.
