Just for future reference when talking about OCing it helps a lot more to post the actual clocks rather than the offset. But half the fun is figuring out what you can do.

For me the reason it crashes is because folding uses a lower power state which uses a lower mem clock. So then when you game and it has a base mem clock of 5700 and then tries to add my +450 it tends to have some issues...

There are ways to lock the card to higher power states with isnt there?

That's pretty good. If you are open to playing with it more I actually have my mem at 5400 without issues (so far) but it seems like most gddr5x is pretty consistent so I would try it out.

Yea I'm still testing out the limits of this card but for now it's fairly stable. Maybe I'll try tomorrow.

I actually modded my 970 bios. It isn't that hard for maxwell but I can't seem to figure out how to do it with pascal.

The only floppy drive I have left (aside from some 5 1/4" Apple ][ e drives) is a 3.5" USB Floppy drive. The funny thing is once a year or one of the front-line IT Support guys at work come by to borrow it. I make them do the walk of shame.

Oh really, now I must try it with my phone. I do have an USB floppy drive and few old games. And now that I know this I need to find emulator for my phone and connect a floppy drive

Got my 1080 folding right now through a win10 VM on my server, would I be better off using a different guest OS? Or better yet, is there a docker container out there that would be better?

 

Looking at ~800K PPD from that card alone right now.

Ubuntu or Mint. I've never tried mint but am running 18.0.4.1 Ubuntu LTS Desktop & Server.

 

I dont think anyones built a docker container for folding but that would make life much easier

Whats your host OS? Some distros can be a PITA to get folding on (SuSE comes to mind) but people have made it work.

 

OpenBSD would be interesting to try

most conventional "wisdom" suggests 10-15% due to less contention for the PCIe bus. I like it because my system doesn't reboot sporadically when Bill Gates decides it needs to

 

I'm running a 1070Ti and yielding 900,000 - 950,000PPD with a modest o/c

 

Trick with o/c on ubuntu is:

 

ps -ef | grep xauthority

 

note the path to the xauth file

the use it if you cant get the DISPLAY variable set:

 

 DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/run/user/122/gdm/Xauthority nvidia-settings -a [gpu:1]/GPUFanControlState=1

Check your logs... turns out one of my rigs decided to try to submit WUs through a dead Hamachi adapter and hasn't sent it anything in 3 days even through it reports PPD via the app.
