Goodmorning All,

I am an avid gaming fan, although the games that I play are not necessarily super 4k heavy (DOTA + online games). Although I would love to be able to build a pc that can do most of the jobs that I do including video editing at 4k. My wife said I can use $2500 to build my PC. I only have a razer mouse and mouse pad (use it for my sager laptop). Should I automatically go for 1080ti? I feel like it's too expensive and would rather go for dual monitor. Any advice? any good $2,500 gaming pc build here? (including monitors+ keyboard). Reason that I'm asking is because I want to make the most out of my money and still have room for upgrades. Thank you thank you very much!!

but to be serieous, the 1080 ti is a great gpu for video editing, but if you want a cheaper alternative, go with a 1070 ti. it will work great for 1440p/high 4k gaming and can probebly handle 4k editing too (not sure tho, i don't edit on it). if you give me all things you want for your setup i could make a pcpartpicker list for you.

I'd get a 1080Ti for that budget. Assuming you're in the US there is a lot of great deals on the 1080Ti with RTX just launching.

Yo wtf, why would you need threadripper for a gaming pc??

"build a pc that can do most of the jobs that I do including video editing at 4k"

Where did you get that it is a gaming pc? I picked up a mostly work pc, which is also supposed to be able to game.

For 4k video editing the minimum is a ryzen 2700x, so a threadripper 1920x would be better for it.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I think I read the first couple sentences wrong or he changed it I though it was gaming and some editing, not some gaming and 4K editing. That sounds fine, but threadripper 2 (even at $900) will do better in 4K editing so in that case, threadripper 2 would be perfect as long as it fits the budget. Maybe 1070ti + 1950x or 2950x

🙂

@LukeSavenije hey bro thanks for the offer. so, here's my plan

MONITOR: ACER PREDATOR (if possible) (open for advice)

GPU: 1080ti (I ddint know which brand is cheap but really good.)

CPU: i7- 8700k (I'm not knowledgeable with ryzen, please help)

MOBO: ROG z3700-E gaming (suggestions?)

CASE: Thermaltake View 71 Snow 4-Sided Tempered Glass

RAM: Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz (any suggestions?)

PS: 650w GQ 80+ gold (is this enough?)

ADATA: SU800 128GB SSD (do I need more GB?)

HD: 2TB Hard Drive BARRACUDA

COOLER:  nzxt kraken

Is $2500 enough for this? Or should I go lower on some?

You need to be careful, the H100i V2 does not have full CPU IHS coverage for ThreadRipper.

Here is an i7-8700K build for ~$2100.

Adding a second 4K monitor would add another ~$350, for a total of just under $2500.

280mm AIO liquid cooler...and also snuck in a GTX 1080 as well.

If you are okay with one 4K monitor to start, you still have quite a bit of room for better/faster components (e.g. GTX 1080 Ti, better CPU).

Thank you!! So, I won this bid on ebay with 30 bidders for a GeForce 1080 ti for $538.00. I owner used it for mining, bought November 2017. He mentioned he kept it well ventilated and kept @ 60 degrees. It still has warranty from NVIDIA. What do you guys think????

If you are serious about editing 4k material, you should at least use 32gb of ram. You might pull off 16gb if it's only once in a while, but it's not recommended. So if you will be doing 4k editing on a regular basis, definitely go for 32gb with maybe room to upgrade in the future( so take 2x16 instead of 4x8, you can put in another 2x16 in the future)
