It is like putting "X" behind your product name.

"NVIDIA RTX"

If they really wanted to bank on the raytracing, how about "NVIDIA RT"?

Let's say it is on sale I'd buy it, but not just because it is gaming certified, rather because it's cheaper.

When the PC is acting up haunted,

who ya gonna call?

I don't think the X had a meaning, always told myself "GT" was "Graphics Technology".

They could've made the naming scheme logical, but hey that'd cut into sales so I do get their choice.

Can't blame one company for not following that trend, would be stupid from a business perspective to not!

They have been before it was mainstream for a lack of better words.

Just secretly hoped they'd change it, a man can dream .. but not all dreams become reality ?

GTX series cards are targeted at the enthusiast and performance gaming segments.GT cards will be slower and cost less than their GTX equivalents even within the same GPU series.

There is any card that has gtx and gt same model?  I think its duplicity , like past 30 series were gt and 50-60-70 were gtx

Case: Corsair 760T  |  Psu: Evga  650w p2 | Cpu-Cooler : Noctua Nh-d15 | Cpu : 8600k  | Gpu: Gygabyte 1070 g1 | Ram: 2x8gb Gskill Trident-Z 3000mhz |  Mobo : Aorus GA-Z370 Gaming K3 | Storage : Ocz 120gb sata ssd , sandisk 480gb ssd , wd 1gb hdd | Keyboard : Corsair k95 rgb plat. | Mouse : Razer deathadder elite | Monitor: Dell s2417DG (1440p 165hz gsync) & a crappy hp 24' ips 1080p | Audio: Schiit stack + Akg k712pro + Blue yeti.

There's GPU series and there is GTX and GT models.
GT models are up to -40 and GTX models are from -50 to -80

so the -40 and the -50 -80 covers the enthusiast vs slower cards, and the gt vs gtx doesnt define anything , if it were -40 gtx and -40gt it would be normal , but if we have numbers to measure performance that is pure marketing

I was actually using SD card with eBoostr for hybrid SSD+HDD caching system before it was even a thing. And there was quite a difference in game load times. Random read was still way higher than from HDD, what sucked was low sequential read speeds compared to HDD and if game used huge resource files that were read in sequential, I got a bit slower performance sometimes. That was back in the day when 30MB/s was considered blazing fast for a SD card... So, a "gaming" SD card would actually help, assuming I had reader fast enough for the task. It was USB 2.0 back then so that SD card was maxed either way...
