PC Build Manuel form 2003. See whats changed in 10 years

mully006

This is an old PC build and troubleshooting guide I found in my room.  I'll post some of my favorite quotes.

"The standard amount of RAM today is 128 megabytes"

"EIDE: a newer version of IDE...  ..supports data rates between 4 and 16 megabytes per second. Also, it supports drives as large as 8.4 gigabytes"

not true, technology improves at an exponential rate, so in the last ten years its 64 times more, it in the next ten years it might be like 348 times more, making it almost 3 TB of ram

I doubt it would get that high. I think a doubling time of 2 years would be more realistic, which would only be 32 times more. That would still be 256 GB's of RAM as a standard.

You can by server motherboards today that support 768 GB of ram.  I do not see the standard amount of RAM going above 32 GB for the standard user.  There is just no way to utilize it.

Gates said once that '640K is all the memory anybody would ever need on a computer.'

i dont see anyone being satisfied by that now do i? :P there is a way to utilise every single bit of memory, we just dont know it yet
