Vertical GPU (lian li 550x)

So for asus rog strix graphic card it says that it takes up 2.7 slots so does that mean I wouldn't be able to use the vertical slot that comes with my case because it's only a 2 slot?

From the looks of things the vertical slots are very close to the side panel and will not have enough clearance for an extra thick cooler on the GPU.
