Logitech updates G502 with new HERO 16k sensor

D13H4RD

I don't think this is big news but a lot of people love the G502 (and me too as I own one and it's a fantastic mouse). Apparently, Logitech thinks so too as it didn't get a replacement but instead an update.

The design has not changed much, if at all apart from the "G" logo changed to reflect the current design. The real change is the sensor, where the PMW3366 is replaced with the HERO 16k sensor, offering up to 400 IPS and 16,000 DPI tracking (hence the name) alongside an upgrade mechanical switch and a more flexible braided cable.

It will arrive on October 2018 with a MSRP of $79.99

Holy f$&@, Batman!

Anyways, my DPI states are 400 (Photoshop only), 800, 1100, and 1600. I don’t see any reason to have the DPI at such an knsane value. Though, I do see it being more likely that the new sensor will be more accurate at lower DPI states.

I had a werid ergonomic issue with the current design of this mouse.  Now and again if l'm holding down mouse button 1 or 2, the back of the mouse will lift-up ever so slightly, causing the current 12k sensor to loose traction.

Rather annoying in CSGO, especially when climbing to the top of a ladder then attempting to aim. Then cross hair slides left or right instead of diagonal.

I do have large hands and the mouse full weighted. Yet my mouse holding technique causes this problem.

Unlike previous Logitech mice (dark senors or where it was called) going from a matt to glossy surfaces will cause issues too.  So it is best to calibrate the mouse for that surface in the gaming software.

Sadly the store (Maplin UK) I bought it from went into administration before I had a chance to return it. So I'm stuck with it.

Oh well guess I will just have to call back on my trusty G400s. Now that is a great mouse.

I play TF2 at 9000DPI

Yes, that's excessive

Hero sensor matches the PMW3366 used, no upgrades there except for lower cost. The omron switches with longer lifespan are a nice touch and flexible cable should be better, though 121 grams without any weights or the cable is still waaaaaaaaay too heavy to be an appreciable difference. I'll pass.
