  • 5 months later...

Dad is rich as fuck and owns a BMW i8, Ferrari 360 Spyder, Maserati Ghibli, and a very rare special edition Range Rover Sport (only home on the weekends). Mom is a depressed writer (no books or payment in 10 years), dog does stupid things that make him cute, and I take math 2 years above my grade level. School sucks too and does nothing for me (swear to god that I could just get an engineering degree through summer programs and work for Nvidia right out of high school).

19 year old college student. Parent's both working class, nothing extra, but just enough. Was going to study mechanical engineering, courses were crazy and am now going for another major. Love to do CAD in my spare time as well as sing. Bi-sexual, though not forthright about it. Favorite music: chillstep and when that get tiring classic rock. Huge tuner car fan, although I'm a sucker for a good sounding v8 as well. Not a lot of friends, but the ones I have have been there through thick and thin. Outgoing person, although a bit of dweeb. Overall outlook on life: shitty at times but always comes out good if willing to make it.

Does not having a second parenthesis around something bother anyone else as much as it does me? (Like if this statement was missing a second side)

16 years old, and quit going to school to work. I still do school on Fridays, but it sucks, because it is all at home, and i have little motivation. My job is great though, because i am an apprentice auto body technician, and am currently fixing up an 1976 camaro in my spare time.

Hello Folks!

Didn't we all hat that question in school, or in interviews? ^^

So, how would you describe yourself/your personality?

I begin:

I'm not the most active person, I don't like social interaction.

People like me, I'm pretty intelligent, and I like tech stuff.

I like writting, not like poem and stuff, just writting in general.

I hate people that think they are smart (see what I did there?). I don't like being asked for favors.

I'm pretty arrogant. Sarcasm is pretty much my second language.

I mostly listen Eminem and Hollywood Undead.

I genuinely hate everybody, exceptions are long time friends/family.

I'm pretty confident.

Now you. :)

So you're not really a dangerous psychopath with a long history of violence?   :P

Actually the correct term for it is Sociopath , not Psychopath . Sorry for being a total D ...

Actually the correct term for it is Sociopath , not Psychopath . Sorry for being a total D ...

I do agree with you but to be honest it's Jogostar you should be telling rather than me? ;0)

To be honest I'm not entirely sure? But my understand is that it's two different terms for the same condition that originate from two different schools of thought within the general area of psychology?

As I understand it there's an argument for the term Sociopathy superseding Psychopathy due to it being a better descriptor, in as much as it emphasises the social aspect of the disorder rather than implying psychosis (which doesn't have to be present?) so is technically more accurate and I would imagine also more effective for raising public awareness?

The general population on which the psycho/sociopath and the psycho/sociopathic mindset prays basically mistakes psycho/sociopathy for mainly an overblown form of Dissociative Disorder, essentially mainly due (in much the same way as fear of sharks was hugely inflated due to the (originally) small b-movie Jaws.)  to the film Psycho (from a book by Robert Block, who incidentally was a Cthulhu Mythos writer, but I digress) where the main protagonist suffered from (as I say, a rather dramatically overblown form of) what's more recently been termed disassociative disorder a mild form of which (I think) I suffer from (and which used to be known in the popular consciousness as "Split Personality" and in psychiatry as Multiple Personality Disorder, although there's debate as to whether it's possible to have a well enough formed second identity to actually validate the existence of such terms?).

But to be honest I've not really read too deeply on that stuff, just quite broadly, and it's been a while (I studied writing and was going to write a horror novel in place of a dissertation but I couldn't complete the course due to illness), but ultimately these are definitions and concepts that are more or less always in contention and so always in flux (much like what's going on with gender terminology at the moment) and opinions are going to differ largely based on who you talk to and what their school of thought on the subject is?

Sorry , I was lazy finding his comment so I replied to you ...

I do agree that some people mistaken Psychopath with Sociopath because it's confusing ... The best character to describe a Sociopath , for me , is Sherlock Holmes . The best Psychopath ? Hannibal Lecter . But I'm no expert on that , I'm just a high school student taking Crash Course on Youtube , so don't take my word for it ...

About your Split Personality , I do think , in some very rare cases ... a complete 2nd personality can be so vivid it can be real . I disregard any patience with more then 2 personalities because they can be just acting ... Ofcourse in some cases that person can stage a full 2nd personality , the key is the " Trigger " , that main event that was so shocking your brain tries to avoid recalling it by making a shield to cover it , hence the 2nd personality . But then again , I'm no expert ...

To be honest with you, where the Dissociation is concerned (the "Split Personality"?) I don't know where I stand on that, I've not really looked very closely into it (but I'm not sure it's even legitimately a thing? It seem to all come down to missing time / amnesia etc. to distinguish between I guess "regular psychosis" [?] and Dissociation? Which I'd be interested to see proven). My diagnosis is actually different, and my condition is such that I can choose to indulge in it? I just don't want to choose not to because my life's so completely and utterly depressing. Also, my subconscious serves me memories and images to re-stimulate me probably as a defense mechanism against intrusive thoughts, and those intrusive triggering thoughts themselves come with a lot of pain that I'd rather escape.

To be honest I don't know if dissociation is actually a valid condition (I guess if I really had it I'd be able to confirm it's existence as a condition) or what it takes for someone to dissociate completely (or indeed even if I'm using the correct terminology in talking about the condition), whether it's "a function of psychosis" [?] etc.?

I don't watch Sherlock so I can't really comment, but the bits and pieces of it I have seen have really lead me to believe that, if he is supposed to be a sociopath, that the characterisation isn't a particularly good one? [but having said that it used to annoy me that Brian Cox threw most of his lines away in Manhunter (1986) but now I think it's a great performance (make of that what you will)] But I don't think that's the fault of the actor since the character has to remain a sympathetic figure for the audience. Also it could be just due to my lack of experience of a wider range or sociopaths, or just confirmation bias based on those I have been able to identify, that I don't recognise that characterisation as that of a Sociopath?

...sociopaths (as lead characters) in media are probably more likely to be found in comedy e.g.:

David Brent (The Office)

Del Trotter (Only Fools and Horses)

Sheldon Cooper (albeit with an autistic component) (The Big Bang Theory)

Karen Walker (albeit with a psychotic component) (Will & Grace)

Jack McFarland (Will & Grace)

Sam Malone (Cheers)...and, in attitude, almost the entire character roster of Cheers.

Carla Maria Victoria Angelina Teresa Apollonia Lozupone Tortelli LeBec (Cheers)

White Goodman (Dodgeball (2004))

"Dr." Rick (Fired Up! (2009))

and to a lesser extent Nick Brady (Fired Up! (2009))

As for giving examples of Psychopaths, to be honest I don't distinguish between the two since (at least as I understand it?) it's the same condition described through different "ideological lenses"?

A small minority of sociopaths commit horrific acts of violence (probably because of other factors and not just because of the sociopathy alone) but these atrocities, even though horrific and mortifying, absolutely pale into insignificance when measured against the damage and destruction wrought by "physically-non-violent" sociopaths on a daily basis and the legacy that the psychopaths of the past have built totally selfishly and areciprocally for the sociopaths of today and those of the future.

i.e. to quote Jon Ronson paraphrasing Robert Hare: "Capitalism at its most remorseless is a physical manifestation of psychopathy."

Describe myself hmm

I am Alex, 24, from North of England, I am 5'10 a bit chubby (or a lot) blue eyes, dark brown/blackish hair generally sporting a beard

I have a childish sense of humour and love to make people laugh. I am shy at first but open up to people after a while. I love spending money on expensive things, i love tech and gaming, photography/video and motorbikes/cars and airsoft. I love music (especially hip hop) and I am a massive movie watcher - I have started a youtube channel as a new hobby too. I work in the office for a prestigious business car leasing company

er dunno what else to say, have a photo to admire my godly (not at all godly) face
