WD external HDD making weird noise

Maybe a driver circuit issue?! Maybe it's committing the platter to read in a specific location in a loop? 

 

Did you drop the drive? Did you interrupt it while it was in active r/w mode?

It is probably dead. If it has been dropped then that is what has most likely killed it.
