Good gaming build for $400-$420?

boey

My friend wants to build a budget pc for around $400-$420. He mostly plays csgo but sometimes plays more taxing games like gta v or for honor. He wants to get at least 60fps on gta v 720p normal settings, and at least 150fps on csgo. Any help?

Your only option for new hardware is an R3 2200G system which will get the job done just fine and give him a solid upgrade path to 8 core CPUs.

ATX Pro4 has display port out should he want to get a free-sync display.

Has both SSD and HDD, but if your friend already has an old HDD they can use in the system from their old computer then you can save $40 by removing that.

See @Spotty 's build. That's the only thing viable at that price point for new hardware. A used 3rd Gen Intel Core system with a 970 would work as well.

Just be careful buying a used system, as some older systems from manufacturers such as Dell and HP may not support a more powerful graphics card like a GTX 970, as the power supply might lack the required connectors, and to replace the power supply may require replacing the motherboard as well in event of the motherboard using proprietary power connectors. You may even have to replace the case as well if the previous motherboard was BTX layout or if the case doesn't fit the graphics card. It can end up being more expensive than buying new system if you aren't careful, and I've seen quite a few threads on these forums where that has been the case.

The flipside is if you do manage to find a good used system without those aforementioned issues and upgrade with a used GTX 970, you can get better performance in games (vs 2200G integrated) thanks to the strong dedicated video card.

Really comes down to whether or not you know what you're looking for, and what the used market is like in your area if it's easy to find well-priced parts or not.
