I'm doing my first build in 5-or-so years.

So, after 5 years (give or take) of just maintaining my old overkill build, I decided to build myself a new PC. It's gonna be utilized  for my personal use (both work and gaming). And if you asking yourself: 'Do you really need all of those OP parts?' The answer to that is: 'Actually, yes. Could you believe it?' To what end? Programming 'course!

So far I've got all of this (I got a killer price):

  • ASUS ROG Zenith;
  • AMD Threadripper 1920x;
  • Samsung SSD 960 pro 500GB;
  • WD Black 4TB 3.5";
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB 64GB(4x16);
  • Cooler Master Cosmos C700P;
  • and some peripherals.

Here's my PCPartPicker:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Y8tmmq

Beside all of the aforementioned parts I have no idea what I'm looking at (sort of), so I'm open to any-and-all suggestion (within the realm of reality of course; I'm not made of money).

Also as far as monitors go - I need something sparing on the eyes.

I know. I just like being overly dramatic.

I'm not really sure on a monitor, speaker, psu, or cooling.

Build seems fine, though X399 boards have had some wonky issues. I'd poke around for specific reviews, as some have worked better than others.

The 2950X launches at the end of the month, and if you're that far in, I'd grab either that or a discounted 1950X.

PSU is overkill, as you probably only need 800w at max. Though, there's really not a lot to be saved by dropping down in wattage.

Do you want speakers or headphones? That's its own entire side-issue. (Depending how you answer, that might also suggest an AMP + DAC.)

The Noctua cooler is really good, so that's fine. A look through the case's included fan lists suggests you're going to want an extra collection of 140mm fans. Probably 3-4, but I'd wait to get the case in & built before switching fans. (Fans are always that one thing that, unless you really know the case, you just never get right on the first build.)

For Monitors, it's really down to personal preference. I know a lot of programmers have been going towards 2x Ultrawide setups.

Something like a couple of these: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bY98TW/lg-monitor-34uc88

I did some research into boards and Zenith Extreme is probably the best option. As far as the sound - I'm looking at speakers, because I already have WAY too many headphones.

Unfortunately I don't have space for two ultrawides at the moment. Plus they have low refresh rate, which does affect my work; not mentioning the fact that it is important for gaming too.

Build is good. One thing I'd suggest though is to get a Samsung MZ-V7P512BW 970 Pro instead of a 960 Pro. It currently sells for cheaper, and it's better performing.

PSU is overkill for the build. 750w is good for stock, 850w if you will OC. You will be thermal throttled before you reach 800w anyway. But feel free to get the 1200w if it tickles your fancy.

If you've done the background on the X399, all good.

The Speakers & Monitors go together. You need to figure out your space first, then how you want to connect speakers to the computer, that fits the space.

On Monitors, something like this would make sense: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/MTkwrH/acer-predator-xb1-270-2560x1440-165hz-monitor-umhx1aaa01 1440p / 165 hz in this case. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/XvfmP6/asus-monitor-pg279q There's a few monitors around with the Gsync unit and that panel.

Yeah, this is more like what I was originally looking at. The speakers are more of a problem since I know NOTHING about sound. Few of my friends who are into audio suggested Edifier.

Well, once you have the space figured out with the monitor, you can always pop back into the Audio section for some help.

Something like https://www.edifier.com/us/en/speakers/p17-passive-bookshelf-speakers-receivers-amplifiers seems pretty decent. If you're looking for bookshelf style speakers. For speakers like those, you could run an optical cable from the built-in sound card and be fine. Wouldn't need an external DAC or Receiver to power them, either.

One of the fun little side things to this field is the sudden resurgence in good quality audio for reasonable prices. The one downside is there is such an explosion of it that it's hard to keep track of who's making "what" that's really good.
