4k and 1080p receiver

Xplo1t

Trying to find the best way to solve some of the issues with my setup.  Currently, I have a home theater in the basement comprised of a plasma TV, receiver, PC, XB1X and PS4 Pro.  The receiver is only 1080p capable and has an output running to the TV and a second out to the 4k TV in on the second floor.  In order to enjoy 4k content upstairs from all devices I can either buy a new receiver or are 4k matrix switches reliable enough?  Any recommendations on 4k@60Hz matrix switches than can handle 4 inputs and 2 outputs?

For the price of a matrix switch you could just buy a new 4k HDR receiver.

I also don't know how you plan to get that to work. The only way to get 4k would be to bypass the 1080 receiver AFAIK. I haven't messed with expensive EDID switches, but seems like the easiest option is to just get a new receiver for the same price. If it makes any difference you could also then just have a separate receiver for ground level and basement.

I would run one output to the receiver and the second output to the upstairs 4k display.  Looks like a EDID switch from Monoprice is around $400, but a replacement receiver for what I have is close to $2k.  The receiver does everything I want besides the 4k switching.

That's a hell of a receiver...

Well if you go for the switcher let me know how it goes. Maybe I can find a cheaper one somewhere that's just a 2 input or something. I'd like to cut my AVR out of my PC loop other than giving audio.

Currently have a model in the Yamaha RX-A20xx line.  The newest one is $1600USD plus tax.

  • 2 weeks later...

4K receivers are very affordable now. Why do you need a $2,000 receiver? You can get dual output for less. What exactly are you inputting/outputting?
