1950X battlenecking my 970?

Hey all,

I currently use a GTX 970 in my 1950X rig as my 980 Ti died and im waiting for the 2080 Ti.

BTW i did not get a 1950X for gaming, that is a secondary thing. I was building a workstation for uni and i found 1950X for only £500.

In battlefield 4 GPU usage fluctuates between 95-98% at 1080p. Is this a reasonable amount of usage

I would call that a bottleneck, although the 1950X isn't really meant for gaming.

Gaming would just be an occasional thing I do. 

I'm using this for my uni degree so I won't really have time to game that much

If anything, I'd say the CPU usage is oddly high... You are running sth else in the background?

CPU usage is 20%. I checked using Afterburner

It technically is a bottleneck, but 2-5 %, especially at 1080p 240hz is a negligible amount.

You could try to put your cpu into "game mode" and overclock it, but it really isnt necesarry.

If your gpu is hovering between 95 and 98%, that's not a cpu bottleneck.  A real cpu bottleneck would constantly limit your gpu usage to below 70% and result in a crazy amount of stuttering.

I agree with @IrshaadH. This can barely be considered a bottleneck.

Uhm...

if GPU usage is at the high 90% range, the CPU is probably not holding the GPU back.

me being blind again, I thought that's CPU usage above 90%
