Can I undo my cpu overclock?

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

That cooler should be perfectly fine. Resetting the BIOS to default settings should remove an overclock no problem.

Hello. Since intel 9th generation is coming out soon I am gonna buy a meanwhile cpu (i5 8600k) and OC it to 5ghz and once it comes out I am gonna return it to the store. But is there a way to (un)overclock it back to its standard values? And would this be a difficult/hard thing to do ?   Say I combine this motherboard with the cpu

Motherboard + CPU:
ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-H GAMING
I5 8600k

ALSO!! Would this cpu cooler be good enough?
Cooler:

Corsair Hydro H100X

thank you!

Btw, the 9th gen won't be coming out in a few weeks, so how would you return it? You mean a trade-in right? Because I'm pretty sure most countries only give you 14-30 days to return something for a refund.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Wow. You're lucky then. That's way too easy to abuse.

It's not like you permanently overclock the CPU, what you do is tell it to run at a certain frequency and voltage in the bios- as soon as you take it out of the motherboard it will run at stock speeds in a different board.

What about the actual board? Will the bord automatically overclock the next cpu that is put in to it or does the overclock only work with that specific combination of that very cpu and motherboard?

Settings will come back to stock as soon as a new CPU will be installed.
