Prices are down and can buy a evga gtx 1080 for 480 at the moment. should I just buy it or wait and possibly risk prices going up. I just want to know you're thoughts, thanks!

buy an EVGA model and they'll let you step-up if the new cards come out in the next 3 months.

I just got a 1080 for $600(Cad) and the performance is a huge upgrade from my old  gtx 970. Plus I was able to sell the 970 for $200 so cut down on my costs.

Best buy actually sells GTX 1080 Founders edition for 550 dollars. You should check that out

theres no situation where the price will go back up , old gpu's get cheaper and new one will cost more. You're basically getting exactly what you pay for at any given time.

Founder's edition cards are only useful if you really want it to look good. They have worse airflow than reference cards. I'd recommend that OP be patient, because even if they choose not to buy one of the new cards, they would probably get some sort of discount.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

I am a new builder looking for graphics cards right now in the $200 - $300 area and I am scared of the fact that everyone is waiting for new cards and all stock will get scarce. I will likely right now just buy a Rx 580.

I have a founder edition card and I believe it runs sorta quite at 80-85 C. Which I think is fine

Yes, that's fine. However, there's no point in paying for a more expensive card, that actually performs worse.

Actually, since the card is 550 Dollars it's cheaper than most of the off-brand 1080s. like the one that asus makes. Also, you can always overclock it.

I'm thinking of buying a evga sc gtx 1080 for $470 on Amazon because it has better cooling and costs less, but the founder's edition looks awesome tho.
