As far as i can tell you would need atleast 2 gpus for it, 1 for each VM. Then i would get an ryzen 8 core, so each of you gets 4 cores.(or a threadripper 12 core, 6 cores for each)

The software part i dont know, maybe someone can help with that.

Yeah, the most simple way is to one of you two plays and the other watches the other one.

Do you already have parts or are building from scratch?

Whats your budget?

Id probably just get 2 pcs, it normally is easier to use and about the same price.

If you want 2 on one system id use multipoint software instead of vms as it save a lot of hassle with passthough and lets you use one gpu.

One problem with vms or multipoint is that some games just won't run due to vm issues or other problem, often caused by anti cheat software.

Don't bother, just buy 2 PCs. If your budget is relatively low just buy 2 R3 2200G systems.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I will go with the 2 systems option also.

In a computer the more expensive is the GPU in the end. And for what you want you will be needing 2 of these anyway.

So get 2x1080p monitors, couple of simple boxes and spare your money in the rest of components just to buy 2 nice GPUs.

what is your goal? For a gaming pc id go with a single drive as its easier to use and the performance difference won't matter for gaming.

Just buy 2 systems with R5 2600s and RX 570/580s, it's far more effective than trying a 2 gamers one PC solution.

Depends on RAID level and media.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
