Stuttering, even on desktop

WereCat

I was using single GTX 1080ti with a 391.x driver and everything was working fine.

Ever since I put an extra GTX 1050 into my PC I get long random stutter/freeze that lasts 1-2s every once a while even on a desktop.

Used DDU in safe mode, tried driver 398.36 and now I am at 398.82.

There is no monitor connected to the GTX 1050, I just use it for NVENC in OBS. Stuttering occurs even if I dont use OBS.

I was using this setup few months back and I dont remember having this issue.

And yes, both cards run at PCI-e x8 because Haswell.

Forgive my ignorance but I see no one answers this...

Can't you do the same job without a single 1080ti? I have the 1080 and I don't see why would you need a secondary 1050.

I can but that has a performance impact on FPS in demanding games. I play at 165Hz and this saves me about 20-30FPS in the more demanding games.

I play at 1440p but I record at 1080p 60FPS with 30k bitrates and 2-pass.

Also I would like to point out that when I play in VR and I also want to record 1080p then I am prety much screwd. The performance goes to hell and the game stutters so much its unplayable.

I had to record at 720p with single card when playing VR. Thats a big part of why I went back to 1050 for recording.

I would like to help more but I don't stream.

Check out for incompatibilities even when it sounds super basic -.-

And something a friend of mine does is having a laptop close to him to do this extra stuff :)

I mean as long as the budget seams not to be a problem here maybe a secondary device would fit your desktop just right.

Yeah, TBH I am considering to sell the 1050 and get a capture card instead.

But its a great backup card if anything hapens to my 1080ti, this saved me several times already.

Wait you want to stream without a capture card? xD I don't know and I don't do this but... As I'm saying if the budget is not a problem go with the standards. And I think is pretty standard to have a capture card :P:P:P

I havent mentioned streaming at all.

I just use it for local recording with high bitrates.

I dont have upload that can handle streaming.

Try pulling the 1050 out of the system to 100% verify that that is the issue.

Try swapping the PCIe slots, if possible.

Impossible with my setup (I would have to tear down the entire PC for that).

Not sure there is any other way to diagnose :/

I ran a 1050Ti and GTX 1080 in the same build for around a year, no problems.

Yeah, I just know for sure that both cards are 100% fine because I was using them each individualy before.

I cant fit the 1050 to the very bottom PCI-e that goes trough chipset because the PSU is in the way then, the card would have to be 1-slot only.

My 1080ti AIO wont reach if I put it anywhere else but the very top PCI-e and to move the AIO radiator I would have to also remove my CPU cooler tower.

I tried asking on NVIDIA forums but so far I just got answers from trolls or morons so I may just try to contact NV support directly then.

You can go to Nvidia Control Panel to change the primary card, can you not? Also, you can change the amount of VR-Frames are prepared for the GPU which in your case, might be helpful to toy around with. Also make sure the card is on Max Performance mode.

Yes.

1x 1440p 165Hz Gsync over DP

1x 1440p 60Hz over DP

Oculus Rift over HDMI

Thats from 1080ti.

And 1x 1440p 60Hz over HDMI from iGPU.

I have to check the NVCP once again then because I only saw the option for which card I want to use for PhysX.

I havent played with the frame option. I will try.

well I have had to use inspector to get mixed display mixed gpu acceleration setting back

this is random with drivers now but I use inspector all the time now considering i'm sli user

I have had to not use the igpu also now I just use 3 in 1080tis and 2 in 650ti

I have had to change mouse polling

I had to also make sure in nvidia and windows that the monitors were touching no gaps between the monitors

where you get to click and drag the placement of the monitors
