Lian Li Heat issues (non overclocked)

QR25DE-SER

Hi,

New to the forum been watching Linus Tech Tips with my husband.  (he is into overclocking where I am not)

I have a

(case is so old unable to put a loop around I think they are called for Cpu (no room)

-Lian Li PC-7FW Black case with front fan & back fan & window on side

Running

-Intel i7 3770K  3.5Ghz cpu on (one of the last Intel mbs that Intel made)

-16 gigs of ram

- 128 SSD Intel HD

-1 TB WD Sata HD

-500 SSD Samsung hd older one

-Chipset for Intel 7 series /C216 chipset ?

-(2) Blueray DVDRW burners

-7970 Ultra 3GB Radeon video card with dual monitors

-850 watt ps

Issue is Ive noticed it gets quite hot in my room during summer during winter its fine (heats my room) However it has the stock cooler on it currently *Not ready to upgrade quite yet* Also not interested in overclocking

Running win 7 64 bit currently as my old Autocad will not run on win 10 at the moment

-When running games Fallout 4 or ESO or doing some major rendering Ive noticed the case gets extremely hot ..on top ..on the sides .. I was thinking of cutting into the top & putting a fan on the top but im unsure if that will work. Im super picky as I really like this case. I like that its easy to put drives in & such Its not huge . However with the heat problems plus I might not be able to run a higher card in it down the road even with the 7970 card in there ...the card comes right to the drive bays . Im lucky if I can get my pinky in there let alone cables. Ive had this case over 10 years. I do love it but with the heat issues. Im not sure what to do. I dont wish to upgrade however Im looking for a case that has all the features im looking for. My husband has a huge case which is super heavy to pick up. Which is not what I want.

I have two options: Figure out how to make my old case better in cooling.

2nd option look for a case with all the features my lian li has...and not be huge . My case is also black in color with the window so I really do like it . Its alliumim I know that the new cases coming out are not allliumin (light) but if I have to not have alliuminmin then so be it.. What i really need is a case with 2 fans in front, 2 fans on top, 2 fans in back ..and a window or something with airflow ...also some filters & still be able to at least have 1 DVD sata if possible if not ..I guess i need to get an external but I dont want to do that either.

Tooless like a lian li  if possible...

I thought I would ask you guys here...as Ive seen some of the new cases I like some...but Im just picky because alot of people have said they dont build the new lian li cases like the old ones & alot of people hold onto them.

Hope you guys can help...Im just tried ofit being super hot in my room.

Thanks,

Couldnt think of a cool name.

Welcome to the forums!

The Lian Li case was good for its time, but  the airflow can only be so good for a case that supports only 2 fans. And yes, most cases are not aluminum (Aluminum is a more expensive material compared to steel and/or plastic)

Usually you wont see cases with two fans in the rear :P and almost every case is trying to ditch the 5.25" bays since CD drives are going the way of the Dodo. A lot of cases also sacrifice some airflow for looks, something not everyone is happy about.

The good news is, almost every new case comes with a side window in the form of Tempered glass usually. This is better since it doesnt scratch, and as long as you dont live in an environment that have hazards like pets or kids that can knock it over, it's rarely an issue. Additionally, almost every case is coming with tooless HDD bays for the 3.5" and even dedicated 2.5" drives as well. Finally, you mentioned you wanted a case about a similar size to the one you own, and not a big case like your husband. Fortunately, "Mid Tower" atx cases like the one you have are usually the norm, and his "Full Tower" sized case is becoming the exception to the rule.

Based on the criteria, I would recommend looking into the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M TG. It has fan filters everywhere, tooless HDD bays, a 5.25" bay, can hold quite a number of fans, is only about 5% larger than your current case, and is made with an almost entirely steel chassis. (It also comes with an acrylic side version if the idea of glass terrifies you. It wont look as good,, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.)

Do you have any more  ideas on cases...some some reviews on it . An ok case. I also just hate the feet I know its going to be tough finding a case without feet.

Hardwood floors :( Sometimes will be on carpet.

I really appreciate the help. The case is very close now to what i want just worried about the cooling. I have seen others mod there Lian Li cases...I just dont know if its feeible to do that to mine. Plus I think trying to drill a hole in the top might wreak it unless im super careful. ?

Ive seen people still using the same case, but like you said lian li cases are changing towards steel. Some are just HUGE.

Any other suggests welcome... Ill be making my pick before winter. Just need 3 cases to choose from. Got one above. Two more needed.

I do so love this case though its over 10 years old...my keyboard is also very old G15 Logitech.. Ive broken the the bottom but its still going. I do have a Icemat mousepad they dont make them anymore its a glass mousepad its over 10 I think years old too. Ive not seen glass mousepads in forever. I love mine... :)

Thanks,

Modding the case is doable but probably not worth the effort if you don't want downtime with the system disassembled so you can work on it.

Most cases with two rear exhaust fans are large full towers and would easily be larger than your current case. It's unnecessary for good airflow and I'm not sure why you want that feature in particular.

What cpu cooler are you using?

Where are you shopping / located? Budget?
