FPS lower after cleaning and thermal paste application

HerrDirektor

So I cleaned my PC and I removed the CPU fan to clean it

When I cleaned it I forgot to add thermal paste, and when I switched on the PC, it was v. slow.

Then I realized this and added the thermal paste but it only slightly helped it. Now I can run Fortnite (unlike before the thermal paste application) but the FPS is 30-40 but I used to get 80-90 when cleaning.

Also the temp. of the CPU is around 90C :/

I don't know whats the problem - please help

what cooler? what CPU?

something isn't right with the cooler for sure. might not be seated properly or something.

you have a Dual Core CPU... obviously you either put the cooler wrong, or you applied thermal paste wrong, your CPU is thermal throttling and causing lower FPS.

reseat the cooler.

I applied a little bit smaller than a pea sized dot onto the CPU. I will reseat the cooler but I have difficulties in it

When putting it on, do I have to push the screws in until I hear a click or do I just tighten? Because right now it is tight.

i really don't know what cooler you have, each cooler has a different installation method.

Sorry this may sound stupid, but where can I find what the cooler type is?

Already happened to me ages ago. The heatsink is not properly installed. It's not pressing evening on the CPU or not pressing at all. Install it properly, and your problem will be fixed.

The CPU is thermal throttling; it even shows that in the bottom graph in RED

Make sure the CPU cooler is properly reinstalled / remounted, and also double check the CPU cooler fan is connected.
