Quad or Duel Channel?

Hi

i've been looking at a motherboard, it's got 4 ram slots. 

The CPU I've been looking at getting is a Xeon 3450 or 3340.

they only support duel channel.

does that mean I'll have to leave half of the slots unpopulated?

You can still populate all 4 slots, you'll have 2 channels running as dual channel.

No, you can have all slots used and you will still run in dual channel. The only advantage is that you will be able to have more RAM capacity.

No. Dual channel with 4 slots means each channel has two slots. You need to populate either 2 or 4 slots for the best results.

You can run dual channel 1+1, 2+2, 1+2, 2+1.
