I recently wore out my 3rd $200+ router in 4 years.  I picked up an En genius EAP 1300 AP for Wifi.   The TP-Link TL-ER6020 wired router has all kinds of issues with games as well as apps like skype. So..... I decided to build a pf sense box.   I got my hands on a Dell OptiPlex 7010 with no cpu and 4GB of RAM.   I picked up an Intel Pentium G 2020t for 12.00 USD on ebay.  I also picked up a dual port gigabit Nic for 20.  I ended up physically cutting down the bracket on the PCI-E Nic to make it fit.  So far it seems to work.   The next step is educating myself on PF sense. 

 

I've also never tried painting part of a case.   The white epoxy appliance paint worked pretty well.

Looking good - wish i could use an aftermarket router at home, but my ISP doesn't allow it :/

I will only ever answer to the best of my ability - there is absolutely no promises that I will be correct. Or helpful. At all.
