32 core threadripper

What do you guys think the upcoming ryzen threadripper should be clocked at? Will it destroy the i9 line-up? will intel actually release a 5ghz 28core that does not need an industrial cooler?

Probably around the same as the first gen TR chips. 4.0-4.2Ghz. In terms of perf/$ it will destroy the i9 lineup, but in terms of raw overall performance, the i9 series will remain superior by a small margin.

 

Intel can technically release that freak of a chip, but there's no way that it will even have a hope of remaining cool at those speeds with anything less than exotic cooling.

1) I expect 3ghz stock. Older X399 boards will blow up if the 32core is faster, say 4ghz.

 

2) No, because if you want clock speed and core count at the same time, X299 is still the way to go. Also, Intel die hard fans.

 

3) no, not at 5ghz anyway. More like 3GHz since 4GHz is as high as custom watercooling can support it.

4ghz all core shouldn't be too crazy if you have like a 360 AIO, or if someone makes a 420mm AIO

It's definitely pushing it tho cuz you're looking at probably 600w+
