The 8700K has better single-threaded preformance, so it does preform better in gaming. I'm not sure whether a VR system would be able to take advantage of more cores/threads, so if somebody who knows more on the subject could inform me, that would be much appreciated.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

I've looked for answers on whether or not higher clock speeds are better than more cores, haven't found much.

Both are fine. Depends what you do other than VR Gaming.

Getting a VR build and I'm having to decide between Intel or AMD, I'm leaning towards Intel at the moment but I just want to know whether an 8700k would be better than a 2700x or vice versa. They will both be paired with a GTX 1080 in a custom loop.

VR is incredibly GPU intensive especially visually demanding games...and really not so much about the CPU...i use a 4770K at 4.2ghz and it's PLENTY...GTX 1080 though...could use an upgrade.

So i would recommend going with a cheaper CPU...like an i7-8700 and a B360 motherboard...let go the cooling for the GPU and get a 1080ti instead.

A GTX 1080 isn't enough? I can't tell whether or not you're being serious, if you are, what other card would you suggest?

it's ''enough'' yes sure...but for example i play project cars 2 a lot and i need to limit my super sampling to 1.3X and play on medium settings for the most part...some even on low...to keep 90FPS.

So i would recommend going with a cheaper CPU...like an i7-8700 and a B360 motherboard...let go the cooling for the GPU and get a 1080ti instead.
