I’ve had 2 graphics cards die in 6 months

Specs:

CPU: i5 4790k @ 4.4ghz

Mobo: MSI Z97 PC MATE

Graphics Card: EVGA 970 SSC

HDD: WD Blue 1Tb

SSD: Adata SP500 256gb

PSU: EVGA 600W 80+

Case: Corsair Spec 02

So here’s my situation I bought a used gtx 970 in July 2016 on eBay. In January 2018 I was playing pubg when all of sudden my pc just died no blue screen or anything, it just turned off . It wouldn’t turn on and the only way It would turn on was if I removed the graphics card. I ask the owner when he bought it and he bought it in November 2016 so it was still under warranty. I filled an RMA and got another 970. I also replaced my 500w 80+ psu from EVGA to a 600w 80+ from EVGA since I thought that might of killed my gpu. Fast forward to today the same thing happened. This time I was playing fortnite and my pc just turned off and wouldn’t turn on till I removed the graphics card. Is this bad luck or is there something wrong with my PC. Today I am going to break the bank and buy a new GTX 1060 and I don’t wont that to die.

Maybe you should stop getting those EVGA white power supplies that are known to be garbage...

Probably bad luck. Could've been a bad PSU, especially the low end EVGA units. If you are looking to upgrade, the RX series from Corsair are worthy contenders.

hi.

Your PSU is not really the most trustworthy component of your system. Have a look at this list:

the W1 was pretty low quality to begin with, bumping the wattage up wouldn't do much if it was killing your components. could just be plain coincidence, but i'd still recommend selling it and getting a corsair CX to replace it.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

from my experience it has to do with RMA. They usually send you cards that they repaired. So every time you get an RMA, chances are something is wrong with the card. A really long time ago, around 20 years ago or so, I RMAed my card 6 times. It was a GeForce card from Gainward. People at gainward were really cool so they felt bad that they sent me 6 defective cards. They ended up sending a more expensive card. That really made my day. Anyways, I am not sure how QC is different nowadays, but I really do not like RMA products. Especially with more expensive cards, they tend to repair it and not send you a new one. All in all, I think the 1060 should be fine. Or...perhaps by any chance...are you overclocking it too much? It could be due to high temp.

CPU: 8600k @4.9  (1.39v) |  Cooler: NH-U14s | Mobo: Asus Strix z390i | Ram: Gskill DDR4 Trident Z 3600 8GB x 2 16-16-16-36

GPU: Gigabyte G1 1080 GTX | Case: Prodigy ITX | Fans: NH-A14, (exhaust) NH-A12, (intake) NH-A20 (intake)

Samsung EVO 1tb | Samsung EVO 512gb x2 | Intel ssd 128gb

PSU: Powerstation 500W
