I am uploading a 10-minute video to my channel on youtube. I started the upload at 1:30 PM and it is currently 5:11 PM. I have taken multiple internet tests and they all say that my internet is fast. I am connected via ethernet and there are only two other computers that I am using on youtube (also connected via ethernet) Why is it so slow?

K The file size is just over a GB

it is mp4

and my upload speed is 4.2 MBPS

MB or Mb? These are different things.

Because a 1GB file will take 4 minutes on 4MBps or 33 minutes on 4Mbps (as a rule of thumb, speedtest.net measures in Mbps and usually is preferred by your IPS, thus creates higher speeds than youtube it self will)

If you're seeing 4.2Mbps from a speed test, then it will be in Megabits per second.

1 Gigabyte is 8000 Megabits, so it should take about 30 minutes if uploading at max bandwidth.

Open up task manager, go to the network tab and see how much bandwidth is actually being used.

10% is being used, and I turned off both of my other computers

I think it's more your internet connection to outside that decides your actual speed. This I think is only what is sent to your router.

But alright, as I said 1GB on 4Mbps is about 33 minutes of upload time. Is this what you're experiencing or is it taking much longer?

Keep in mind what I said about speedtest.net testing usually having higher results than real world scenarios and that of course it also depends on how slow or fast YouTube is today.

Abort the upload and start again.

Youtube has multiple servers in multiple countries to which files are sent - maybe when you started the upload, Youtube automatically paired you with a server in a country that at this moment has a somewhat poor connection with you, so your upload is really slow.

Log out and log in again, and maybe when you upload again, it will pair your browser with a server from another country or another location to where your upload speed will be more consistent.

If you want to, you can try to log in using a VPN and connect to your Youtube account as if from another country that's close to yours - get a trial of Private Internet Access or something like that and try.

Way ahead of you

I tried the Vpn with countries close to me

I have aborted it 43 times this week

6 times this day

and I don't know why because when I used to stream on twitch, It was fine and I had the same connection

Convert the file format ... if it's mp4 change it to mkv, or the other way around.  You can do this with MKVToolnix (mp4 to mkv) or Handbrake for mkv to mp4

Youtube often tries to compress the video in their own formats as the video is uploading... and maybe something goes bad in the process and that interrupts the upload and Youtube stops accepting the file, and your upload gets stuck.

If you repackage the file into another format, that could be a workaround for whatever happens with Youtube's systems in the background, if this is the case.
