from 960 to 1060?

Go to solution Solved by LaPiNN93,

the only 2 questions you gotta ask whenever you wanna upgrade are:

- do i have the money right now?

- do i wanna wait?

whatever the rumors says, nothing is sure unless it's announced, waiting only got me a more expensive 1080, i wanted to build my rig in oct-nov 2017, remember before the freaking hype in prices of gpu's, well i waited until april 2018 to do it, i would've got my 1080 for probably less than 700$ CAD but i paid 800$CAD, i was waiting for a 1180, you know the card rumored for the last 20 years, yeah, don't listen to rumors seriously, they,re pretty much only there to build hype around things, so ask yourself the above 2 questions and pull or don't pull the trigger of awesomeness.

IMO, here in Canada you can probably sell a gtx960 for around 125-150 $CAD depending on the model and cleanliness of your card, also if it's a 2 or 4 gb of VRAM (i don't know if they did that for desktop gpu's but in the laptops they did) so for around 150 $CAD you'd get like miles ahead better performances, so yeah get this card, especially if you are playing 1080p, (lots of games are running 80-120 fps 1080p with the gtx1060.)

is upgrading my gtx 960 to a gtx 1060 worth it right now?

will there be a new series soon?

and how big is the gap in performance between the 2?

sorry for the flood of questions.

The 1060 performs similarly or better than a 970 to a 980, so that would be a nice upgrade from the 960, yes. And worth it IMO.

Ok, first, the 1060 is 60-80% more powerful than the 960 depending on the variant. Second the Nvidia Claims that it will be a "long time" before we see any next gen cards, thought it is believed that we can expect them in the August to October time frame. Third, is it worth it? It depends are you willing to wait? Otherwise yes it most certainly is worth it.

Thank you guys for the replies!

I have one more question.

I live in Osaka/Japan so the prices are abit high IMO.

between the msi aero gtx 1060 and the asus turbo gtx 1060. which one should go for? or anyother suggestions?

I need 2 HDMI ports

1 for my monitor which only has 1 HDMI and 1 VGA input

1 for my oculus rift.

I don’t care about looks I just want the best possible choice. The cheaper the better.

here are the price (in yen) for the 2 gpu mentioned above.

I used to have the Asus Turbo. Great card, boosts very well. Not the quietest and coolest in the series, but quite good.

The 1060 is closer to a 980.

Thanks for pointing that out, my previous statement was based out of old benchmarks and unreliable benchmark websites :P
