If I have a 1440p display will downloading 4k content make the picture look better at all?

Go to solution Solved by Swealteek,

Yes. it wil make the pic "look better" or "sharper"

I read somewhere a while back that if you use 4k content on a 1440p monitor it still makes it look slightly better even though the display isn't 4k because it produces better quality 1440p content. Is this true or is it hogwash? (Couldn't find where I had read this.)

This is generally true. Generally, on streaming platforms, the UHD/4K option will be running at a higher bit-rate than the Full HD/1080p option. This will usually give you a better looking video even on a 1080p display.

On top of that, with your display being 1440p (2.5K) you will actually have more pixels delivered to you than if you were watching a 1080p source.

But yes, in short. The 4K content will be objectively "better".
