From all the threads made to talk bad of Star Citizen I have seen in this forums, and myself don't support nor care about this game, this was by far the most simplistic and laziest one.

Not all (SWTOR for example), but most are.

A scam would mean you pay money with the promise to get something, but in return you get nothing. Star Citizen has pay to play content which you pay money for non tangible (digital) goods.

 

If you think that is bad, the freemium game (free app with in app purchases) I used to play...Clash of Clans would cost you about $15,000 USD (about $12k in resources, about $3k in time) to gem a brand new account to max....and that's a MOBILE GAME!! If you don't agree with in app purchases, don't buy them. The developers of these types of games push the player to want to buy the content as this is recurring income for them. If you're disciplined enough you could treat it like a subscription and buy something every month. This way you are getting premium content without splurging on a crap ton of digital content.

 

My opinion, I want to buy a game once. But I have no problem with DLC or developers having micro transactions in a game with an initial purchase price so long as it bypasses in game hours and not locks out players to relevant game content if they don't want to pay.

 

Free games with micro transactions should have little restriction IMO so long as they don't start locking down players after the fact. For example if you spent a long time building up to something only to have their game crippled by a premium content update thereby forcing them to pay or no longer be able to play.
